C7 + UEFI + GPT + RAID1
Hi list,
I'm new with UEFI and GPT.
For several years I've used MBR partition table. I've installed my
system on software raid1 (mdadm) using md0(sda1,sdb1) for swap,
md1(sda2, sdb2) for /, md2 (sda3,sdb3) for /home. From several how-to
concerning raid1 installation, I must put each partition on a different
md devices. I've asked times ago if it's more correct create the

Hi messmer,
seems that anaconda supports partitioned RAID devices. Disk selection
see one mdraid device and permits to create partition on it.

After USB boot problems on Gigabyte GA-M55Plus-S3G
the closest i have gotten to a consistent way to test a MS-DOS filesystem
setup is:
dd if=/dev/zero of=binary.img bs=1M count=500
i="$(losetup -f --show binary.img )"
parted binary.img mklabel msdos -s -m
dd if=/usr/lib/syslinux/mbr.bin of="${i}"
parted binary.img mkpart primary -a optimal -s -m 0% 100%
parted binary.img set 1 boot on

AsteriskNOW x86_64 install GPT partitions
Hello everyone,
I'm having an issue installing AsteriskNOW 2.0.2 on a Dell server. When I
go to intall it, with BIOS legacy mode for partition tables, I get as far
as setting pu the partition tables. However, the installer then informs me
that GPT partition table schemes are required and that I have to resolve
the issue.
I changed from BIOS/MBR/Legacy mode to GPT/UEFI boot mode but then

Formatting a USB Drive
Hi All,
I have a Drobo, connected to a CentOS 6.4 box. The box sees it as /dev/sdg.
I want to format it ext3 (as they dont support ext4) but when I try I get:

WARNING: GPT (GUID Partition Table) detected on '/dev/sdg'! The util fdisk
doesn't support GPT. Use GNU Parted.

creating partitions on a 2.7TB drive
Hello, sorry for the long email, it's a little hard to explain this issue. The gist of it is that the Ubuntu version of parted allowed me to do something which perhaps should not be allowed i.e. creating partitions on a 2.7TB drive when the partition table is not *gpt* but *msdos*.
I am trying to configure 2 identical servers, both are Dell Poweredge 2970 machines with 6 disks in them

Large RAID volume issues
I have just finished creating an array on our new enclosure and our CentOS 5

The number of cylinders for this disk is set to 182292.
There is nothing wrong with that, but this is larger than 1024,

1: Is this system booting UEFI or BIOS?
2: Is the disk partitioned with MBR or GPT?
3: Is /boot on its own partition?
3TB drives are larger than MBR and BIOS properly support, so they're
only really expected to work on a system partitioned with

Hi list
this is actually a problem on a debian system but I thought you might
be interested to hear of it and perhaps can offer some help.
I have a woody box (dell pe750, dual cpu) running a kernel from
backports.org (debian 'testing' packages built on a 'stable' box).
The kernel version is 2.6.7-1.backports.org.1.
This host is hooked up to an Apple Xserve RAID with a 2.3Tbyte

Force anaconda to use GPT labels on all drives?
I did a quick search through the archive and couldn't find anything that
mapped to my need, so I figured I should ping the community and see if
anyone has the requisite knowledge and could point me in the right
direction.
*Succinct Version*
Is there a way to, using updates.img, monkey patching or swapping in a
newer Anaconda (>= 16) to force all disks to have gpt labels and not just

[PATCH] daemon: inspect_fs_windows: Handle parted errors
By creating an empty disk and using it as the first disk of the vm (i.e.
/dev/sda, /dev/sdb{1,2} contains the windows fses) we change the
iteration order of the disks.
This causes inspect_os() to fail since Parted returns a Unix_error if
the device does not contain any partitions - fix this by handling this
Unix_error.

Large disk support
I have a 3.5 TB RAID 5 Array through a 3ware 9590SE 8 port card, and am
running into what seems like quite a lot of problems trying to get the system
installed correctly. The system is a running dual Opterons with 2 GB of RAM,
and I'm attempting to install through the x86_64 ServerCD.
First, grub refuses to install on the disk, as it's too large. I can get
around this though by

Re: [PATCH] daemon: inspect_fs_windows: Handle parted errors
Yea, I noticed that commit, but since it was used in gpt too
regardless of that commit, I decided not to mention this regression.
I also noticed that list_filesystems() still works, this is probably
due to filtering of devices (daemon/listfs.ml):
"let devices = List.filter is_not_partitioned_device devices in"
What do you have in mind here?

gpt and extlinux how to get it bootable?
Hi
I just tried to implement gpt extlinux booting in my archboot project.
extlinux installs fine but i'm not able to boot the hd afterwards.
Setting partition to boot on in parted doesn't seem to have an effect in GPT
mode.
Is there any way to get it booting, i haven't found any docu about it.
Thanks in advance
greetings
