Eggcups printer icon not showing up in panel
I did a "side grade" on a client's machine freom FC2 to Centos4.2. I am not seeing the eggcups printer icon appear when the user sends a print job. One problem was that I had to copy /etc/X11/xdm/Xsession.rpmnew into place so that the DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS variable got set correctly. The messagebus service is running, as well as hal. There is a notification area in the

Confusion about scheduling tasks with crontab
Hi, I have to setup a scheduled task on a server, and I just read through some crontab docs. Now I'm confused. It's not so much the syntax of the cron job to define (I got that), it's more... how do I get to define it? Use a text editor (vi or the likes) to edit /etc/crontab directly? Or create some empty file in /etc/cron.daily or /etc/cron.hourly or the likes and then edit it

LZO versus LZJB
Hi Some developers here said a long time ago that someone should show the code for LZO compression support for ZFS before talking about the next step. I made that code with a friend and we also made a little benchmark to give a first impression: http://denisy.dyndns.org/lzo_vs_lzjb/ I hope we made no technical error, but if you find something not accurate, we will correct it. Xnest and gnome
I still don't like gnome.... Got a user who wants the "whole gnome experience" (i.e., he can't deal w/ the command line), so I'm testing this: I'm running 6.5, KDE. On the server, I've installed both Xnest, "Gnome Desktop Environment", and "X Window System". Xnest works fine, I can start xclock, or an xterm, but if I try DISPLAY=:1, I see the

Xvnc from tightvnc crashing
Hi all, I am having issues with running tightvnc-server on a CentOS 5.1 x86_64 machine (currently up-to-date, kernel 2.6.18-53.1.6.el5). Occasionally, the Xvnc instance will just crash, taking with it everything that I was running. When it crashes, it seems to do so when I try to open some GUI program. So, for instance, I click on a shortcut to open a program, and poof, it crashes. But it does

Memory usage bar plot
Hi, I haven't tried the code yet. Is there a way to parse this data using R and create bar plots so that each program's 'RAM used' figures are grouped together. So 'uuidd' bars will be together. The data will have about 50 sets. So if there are 100 processes each will have about 50 bars. What is the recommended way to graph these big barplots ? I am looking

Swap memory: I can't reconcile this stuff.
I need to look more into it, but before I start the long and arduous "googling my life away" process, I figured someone might know the answer. I've read the man pages several times and they didn't change! :-( As normal, while looking at one thing, something else bites my butt. I tuned on the swap field in top and sort on it. Here's an edited snippet of the results. Mem:

I have something strange, my auto update is not running any more, if I start the update process manually and it is working. If i do a clean install of centos 5.3 on a pc or laptop it is working. My question is why is the auto update not running any more afther the update process. Met vriendelijke

vncserver
Hi all, When using the "vncserver :1" and then "vncviewer :1" to see it so far so good. then when I run a program I get the window outline until I move to the position I want and click - how can I just skip that step and lets say have my new program go full screen (in the vnc window). Is that possible and how? THanks, Jerry

vncserver startup issue
I installed vncserver via yum and when I reboot the server it does not want to start despite being set to start upon boot. Logging in via SSH and then issuing vncserver, I am able to get it running properly. I can't seem to figure this out. Any pointers appreciated. -- <---------------------------------------------------------------> Alex Pilson FlagShip Interactive, Inc.

vncserver does not start gnome-sessioin automatically
I installed RHEL 5.8 x86_64 today. To my surprise, when I connect it using vnc viewer it does not start gnome-session automatically. The last line in .vnc/xstartup is twm& Before I removed RHEL 6.1 a few days ago, vncserver always starts gnome-session every time I open vncviewer. Is that related to RHEL version or vnc-server version? Best Regards, Yawei

The content of the mention file: ---------------------------------------- [Unit] Description=Remote desktop service (VNC) After=syslog.target network.target
