RSync Issues
Hi All, Rsyncing to a USB drive. I am in single user mode. I am doing: rsync -avx --stats --progress --ignore-existing --exclude 'home/backup/ data' / /mnt/sdb2/ But I dont see if ignoring existing. A previous rsync stalled and now it seems to be copying them again rather than ignoring them. Does anyone have thoughts? -ML

more software raid questions
hi all! back in Aug several of you assisted me in solving a problem where one of my drives had dropped out of (or been kicked out of) the raid1 array. something vaguely similar appears to have happened just a few mins ago, upon rebooting after a small update. I received four emails like this, one for /dev/md0, one for /dev/md1, one for /dev/md125 and one for /dev/md126: Subject: DegradedArray

[PATCH] use rcu_barrier() to wait for bdev puts at unmount
Doing this would reliably fail with -EBUSY for me: # mount /dev/sdb2 /mnt/scratch; umount /mnt/scratch; mkfs.btrfs -f /dev/sdb2 ... unable to open /dev/sdb2: Device or resource busy because mkfs.btrfs tries to open the device O_EXCL, and somebody still has it. Using systemtap to track bdev gets & puts shows a kworker thread doing a blkdev put after mkfs attempts a get; this is left over

Rsync and snapshot backups
I'm currently using rsync to backup home directories using this: rsync -avx --delete --backup --backup-dir=/u1/home.bak /u0/home/ /u1/home >> ${log} I'm trying to move to snapshot backups using this: rsync -avx --delete --backup --backup-dir=/u1/home.bak --link-dest=../home.current /u0/home/ /u1/home_${datetime} >> ${log} This works except I no longer get deleted source

Rails Hosting: Slicehost vs. Rimuhosting
I know similar topics have been covered before, but I''d like to get a more up-to-date Ruby developer''s opinions. (Please note that I''ve read similar threads in this group and read a lot of hosting comparison sites, even contacted both companies and am still having a hard time making decisions. ) After reading about limitations with shared hosting plans, I decided that

[LLVMdev] use AVX automatically if present
I wonder why AVX is not used automatically if available at the host machine. In contrast to that, SSE41 instructions (like pmulld) are automatically used if the host machine supports SSE41. E.g. $ cat avx.ll define void @_fun1(<8 x float>*, <8 x float>*) { _L1: %x = load <8 x float>* %0 %y = load <8 x float>* %1 %z = fadd <8 x float> %x, %y store

I forgot to mention that I am using recent LLVM-3.1 and in principle my llc knows about avx as I have shown in the second example. But avx does not seem to be used by default. [LLVMdev] [Proposal] function attribute to reduce emission of vzeroupper instructions
Hi all, I would like to find out whether anyone will find it useful to add an x86- specific calling convention for reducing emission of vzeroupper instructions. Current implementation: vzeroupper is inserted to any functions that use AVX instructions. The insertion points are: 1) before a call instruction; 2) before a return instruction; Background: vzeroupper is an AVX instruction; it is

[LLVMdev] RFC: AVX Feature Specification
I've been working on adding AVX to LLVM and have run across a number of questions. Here's the first one. In some ways AVX is "just another" SSE level. Having AVX implies you have SSE1-SSE4.2. However AVX is very different from SSE and there are a number of sub-features which may or may not be available on various implementations. So right now I've done this: def

[LLVMdev] use AVX automatically if present
Henning, I believe the code that is supposed to do this is in: lib/Target/X86/X86Subtarget.cpp in X86Subtarget::AutoDetectSubtargetFeatures() Is there a bug in that function? -Hal On Thu, 24 May 2012 23:56:48 +0200 (CEST) Henning Thielemann <llvm at henning-thielemann.de> wrote: > > On Thu, 24 May 2012, Pan, Wei wrote: > > > Very likely AVX is not enabled in your llc.
