Problem: permissions for removing a file in a file system mounte d by smbmount
Hi,
I have got a problem with the semantics of file permissions on a file system
mounted by smbmount on a Linux box (kernel 2.2.14, Samba 2.0.6, and after
looking through the 2.0.7 announcement, it appears that the problem has not
been addressed there).
Consider the following case: I mount a share from an NT server on a Linux
box, which I then use at the Linux box. I create a file on that

Samba performance question
Hi all,
I am running a samba server (2.0.3) in a small eth-based home network.
There is only one win client (NT workstation, Sp4).
The samba box ist set up with wins support enabled and the NT box?
wins server entry points to samba server. Everything works fine: no
error messages neither server nor client. The server shows up
immediately in the NT?s network neigborhood. Browsing is fast.

Client with SSL client cert support?
Good day, all,
I've gleaned that dovecot has support for verifying SSL client certs on
connect. What IMAP clients have people found that support sending a
specific SSL cert? I can't find this feature in Thunderbird, at least.
Thanks,
Peter

Samba AD Best Practice (DNS)

I thought I went into detail in the first message:
For this example:
- Network: 172.18.0.0/24
- Domain: network.ca
- AD server: ad.network.ca, 172.18.0.20
- Gateway/DNS: 172.18.0.1
The gateway is running as the main DNS server, and has the various
underscore ("_") entries

Samba AD Best Practice (DNS)
Hello,
This question is about best practice of introducing sambda-ad-dc to an
organization that already has networking, and being minimally disruptive
about it. I guess this question applies equally to adding a Windows AD
server, but most people with that setup would let it be the primary DNS,
etc.
For this example:
- Network: 172.18.0.0/24
- Domain: network.ca
- AD server: ad.network.ca,

Host does not respond to nmap
Hey Y'all,
I just set up a new old machine on my network. I did a net install of
CentOS 6.7 on it replacing an outdated copy of Win XP. Of course I'm
now in the throws of configuring the machine to be a useful member of
society.

nmap showing lots of ports open that shouldn't be
I have a CentOS 4.2 machine. lokkit shows that a firewall is
enabled, and it is customized to allow SSH, Web, and DNS traffic only.
But if I run nmap against the server IP (from my home machine,
outside the local network) it shows over 1000 open ports. Am I not
understanding nmap, or is there something seriously wrong here?
Here is a small snip of the nmap output (I can include it all if

nmap not scanning networks?
Hello!
Attempt to scan a network with any method except plain ping results in an error:
truss nmap -sT -p 21 '172.19.17.*'

What's strange that man on send(2) doesn't state that EADDRNOTAVAIL can ever be returned from sendto().

[OT] Fyodor terminates SCO nmap rights -- how about Samba?
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
As you all may know Fyodor of nmap fame has terminated SCO's
rights to distribute namp with its products. See:
http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2004/02/27/1077676955381.html
I know this is off-topic, but I am interested in opinions
on the subject of SCO using Samba in it's products while they declare
the GPL is unconstitutional and invalid.

Samba and UFW
Good Morning,
Using Linux Mint 19.1 I have configured UFW to allow Samba. I see that ports
135 tcp, 137 udp, 138 udp , 139 tcp and 445 tcp are all set properly. The
problem is that with UFW enabled I cannot connect to my Windows 8.1 PC.
Error "Unable to mount location - failed to retrieve list from server, file

about nmap
Dear all!
Last evening I've noticed that
my 5.2 box had strange result
about nmap search. One port is
randomly open when I look from
user account. From root everything
looks as expected. The comp is
most time out of internet. The
last thing was adding "expect"
package. I am not paniced, could
be hiting... Or something in
"expect" package... It is random
