KDE and mounting CD's / DVD's without noexec
Hi e,
I am normally use gnome and would do the following to make my CD / DVD
mount with exec
gnome-mount --write-settings --device /dev/sdc0 -o exec
What is the equivalent in KDE ? My initial research suggests that I
actually have to write a custom udev rule to achieve this.
This has led me as far as running
udevinfo -q path -n /dev/scd0
udevtest /block/sr0 (the output is below)

Problems with SATA DVD+-RW drive
I just got a Dell Dimension e521 (AMD 64 x2, nVidia MCP51 chipset) and
so far it has been fine. Today I tried to burn some CD-R and DVD-R
disks and have been able to do nothing but make coasters. The drive is
a TSST TS-H653a (Samsung OEM) and does have the current firmware.
Playing back data, audio, and video disks work just fine, but recording
is a different matter.
The drive shows up as

SOLVED: CDRW-DVD Mount Problem, Centos 5.1, Intel board...
Problem has been solved: "sudo mount -t iso9660 /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom -o"
mounted the drive after adding "mount /mnt/cdrom" to /etc/festab.

I'm having a problem mounting my new
CDRW DVD in my new machine I just built. The motherboard is an Intel
DP35DP, and I connected the CDRW DVD via ribbon cable into the
motherboard IDE slot. Centos 5.1 is installed and functioning fine
so far (other than this problem).

MOre on buring ISOs
So right now I have installed k3b on this notebook. I am using my Storix
DVD/CDRW usb drive. I can read cds with it.
Cannot burn CDs. First k3b suggests slowing down (from 8x to 4x). Then
use TAO. Then it gave up.
So I try cdrecord directly. -checkdrive finds some interesting things.
Got to close the drive manually; cdrecord says it can't. then try a
cdrecord -v dev=dev/scd0 sample.iso

Natulius CD burner does not accept my 700Mb CD-R disks
When I try to burn anything to cd, I get a message to insert a CD large
enough for my file (normally an ISO image). Doesn't matter if the iso
image is a 600Mb Centos ISO or a 48Mb DSL ISO. Same warning.
My CD-Rs are Memorex 700MB/80min 52x disks that work just fine on XP
systems.
So what am I missing configuration-wise?

I'm having trouble installing a program from the CDROM / DVD drive. I've checked to see that the mapping of the d: drive is correctly pointing to the

Newbie can't figure out error messages
I am trying to use rsync to create a mirror of my Linux laptop (Ubuntu
Dapper amd-64) onto a USB drive hanging on a Windows 2000 desktop over
ethernet. The folder I want to rsync to is /laptop and the USB drive is
mounted at /media/smb using the following:
sudo mount -t smbfs -o username=jcj //Devil4/Linux_Backups /media/smb
Mounting works fine -- the mount command shows the USB drive as

dvd rw not recognized
I installed Centos 5.2 on a brand new computer the other day. It has an Asus
DVD RW drive in it which I used to boot the netboot disk off of to install the
operating system so it found the dvd at that point.
Now k3b tells me that it can't find any drives.

CD-Mount on CentOS-6.7
When I load a blank cd into the optical drive on my CentOS-6.7
workstation I am not getting any window or visible mount action on my
Gnome desktop. Formerly, when I mounted a writeable media in this
drive on this host I would see a nautilus style file browser window
open with inducements to add files.
When I visit /mnt I see nothing:

mounting CDROM without mapaping UC to LC
Hi!
this is surely a newbie question, so I should know the answer, but
I'm fighting with mounting a CD such that filenames are NOT mapped to
lowercase (I need to use its on-board tools for accessing files on it
while mounted on Centos 6.5, and those tools assume uppercawse, since
they assume the entire world runs Windoze.)
but despite my best efforts, it keeps being mounted with UC-LC

First the Storix drive works just fine under DSL 4.2.1 on my Libretto.
So the drive is fine, the media is fine. And cdrecord on DSL reports

xm attach-block reboots entire server
I'm still trying to get xen working before Centos 6 and KVM just for
experience. I seem to be able to do most of what I what with VMs, but
I've run into another problem with CD/DVDs.
I can get a DVD mounted on the host domain just fine, but when I try and
attach-block to a running guest VM, the entire server reboots. I've
tried many different commands versions based on what Google

Drive use in wine
I'm running Wine release 20011004 and have created the floppy and CDs
drives for my floppy, CD and CDRW. I am automounting the devices.
1. I've noticed that if I don't have a floppy or CD in the drive wine
ignores it and even if I insert a disk later the app (notepad) never sees
it.
2. I have two CDs, one a Creative DVD and the other a Plextor CDRW, and

Installing RHEL On Laptop.....
Not sure if this is the right place to come to, but I don't have "RHN"
support.....I'm hoping someone can help me out here.
I have downloaded the RHEL .ios file and burned it to DVD/CD, my laptop
is primed to Boot From CD/ROM Drive, I start the installation using the
semi-graphical interface, and the first few options are a breeze, then

CentOS-6.5 - CD/DVD does not sense media
I dealing with problem 1 - see previous message - I set about creating
a live DVD on my development system. Now I find that I cannot seem to
mount a medium in that drive. wodim --devices reports it as present
and so does cdrecode. I can use the eject utility to toggle the tray
open and closed. But when I load a blank dvd or cd in that unit I get
nothing on my desktop - in other words I am not
