Xnest unable to connect with firewall enabled (possible bug with 5.3)
Hi, My requirement is to use Xnest only. It was working seamlessly with 5.2 but not with 5.3 I am using this command to connect to the remote X-server. Xnest :1 -geometry 800x600 -query *<ip-address-of-X-server>* Can anyone confirm the same behavior? Or shall I file the bug in bugzilla? Xnest and gnome
I still don't like gnome.... Got a user who wants the "whole gnome experience" (i.e., he can't deal w/ the command line), so I'm testing this: I'm running 6.5, KDE. On the server, I've installed both Xnest, "Gnome Desktop Environment", and "X Window System". Xnest works fine, I can start xclock, or an xterm, but if I try DISPLAY=:1, I see the

Broken upgrade to 5.2
Hello all, I was upgrading a CentOS 5.1 box to 5.2 remotely, and I lost my ssh connection to the server. Now when I rerun the "yum upgrade" it fails due to conflicts in the transaction check stage. Before I dig myself a deeper hole, I think I need advice. The original error I received was a conflict between python-devel and python, so I erased python-devel with the plan to

Open extra ports on firewall?
Hi, I'm using the preconfigured firewall that comes with CentOS 5. I configure it with system-config-securitylevel-tui, close all ports except SSH, and then open only the ones I need. Right now, on one of my desktops, I've installed AMSN, which requires opening a series of ports. I've configured the app to use ports 7000 to 7010 (TCP and UDP). When running

Recommended way of handling iptables firewall in CentOS?
Hi, I'm planning to use CentOS 6.x on a handful of LAN servers. So far I've been using Slackware64 14.0 and 14.1 for the job. I wonder what's the orthodox/recommended way of configuring and iptables firewall with CentOS. I understand there's the system-config-securitylevel-tui NCurses interface which allows defining a basic set of rules. But what about the handful of more

Default Firewall Entries
Hello CentOS, I'm curious... there seems to be a couple of default firewall rules that I'm not familiar with in the CentOS 4.0 # Firewall configuration written by system-config-securitylevel # Manual customization of this file is not recommended. *filter :INPUT ACCEPT [0:0] :FORWARD ACCEPT [0:0] :OUTPUT ACCEPT [0:0] :RH-Firewall-1-INPUT - [0:0] -A INPUT -j RH-Firewall-1-INPUT -A FORWARD

puppet vs rhel4 system-config-securitylevel
Hey every one, Over the past week I have been exploring puppet and had been ignoring an oddity in its output that Luke helped me figure out today. It all started with trying to configure puppet to configure iptables using redhats utility system-config-securitylevel-tui on rhel4. I was able to get it up and running using the following configuration: node default{ firewall {rhel4:

firewall issue
Hello everyone, I am setting up a new system for use as a testing/demo/trial-and-error system. I have installed CentOS 4.4 on it. There is not an X-environment, so I will need to fix this from the command line (via ssh access). I am trying to do an nfs export from this box to another on my internal home network. I have figured out that it is a firewall issue on the CentOS box (I turn off the

Firewall and nfs mounts
Which ports need to be open on a nfs mount server? And does the client need anything opening? I tried setting 2049 udp and tcp, using system-config-securitylevel, but it doesn't seem to save the settings. First, am I trying the correct ports? Second, what am I missing in making the changes stick? Anne -- New to KDE4? - get help from http://userbase.kde.org Just found a cool new

Configuring firewall to allow Samba to work
Dear Folks, This is a note for all those people out there who had to turn off their firewalls (iptables) to get Samba to work. First start the GUI interface to the firewall by typing [somedir]# redhat-config-securitylevel Click on "Customize". Click the check box for your network adapter (usually "eth0"). Click on the checkboxes for any services you want to allow (I

transfer interrupted (code 3) at flist.c(812)
Ok, I just setup the log file and this is what I see there: rsync on cdrive/Temp/pix.log from admx (141.214.137.139) transfer interrupted (code 3) at flist.c(812) I had to change [cdrive] from path = "c:\" to path = c: to get rid of '@ERROR: chdir failed' error. I am getting close but still need some help. Thanks in advance. Nishi > -----Original Message----- From:

--size-only ?
-I, --size-only Normally rsync will skip any files that are already the same length and have the same time-stamp. With the -- size-only option files will be skipped if they have the same size, regardless of timestamp. This is useful when starting to use rsync after using another mirroring system which may not

NFS problem
I'm trying to NFS-mount a CentOS directory on my Fedora laptop, but I find I can only do this is I turn off the firewall on the CentOS server. If instead I go to system-config-securitylevel-tui on the server, and allow NFS4, this does not do the trick. Nor does allowing port 2049. What do I need to allow? [I should say that the CentOS server is remote, and difficult to access directly; that

Hi Ignacio
Hi Ignacio, apology for my English... my name is George Ginis... what you mean running/accessible via firewall and system-config-securitylevel? in XP or CentOS? and what is this? the PuTTY I have in XP or in CentOS? thank for your answer... By default CentOS doesn't have ftp, telnet, nor rlogin services running/accessible via firewall. Use an ssh client such as PuTTY. And don't forget

blocking outgoing ports with iptables
Hi, I'm using the generic system-config-securitylevel-tui program on a remote server to configure my firewall. So far it's been fairly decent, allowing me to open up ports and whatnot. But I want to start blocking a couple of outgoing ports on my machine. I want to lock it down so the only traffic going in our out of my machine is stuff that I specify. Is there a way to do this

Secure connection to testor refused !
Here is a newbie question. Hope, you will not mind. I am trying to backup a file from my NT machine onto AIX machine. Here is the setup: NT machine (testor): rsync is in c:\Rsync\rsync.exe and is running as a daemon. (I created a service for Rsync first). AIX machine (admx): rsync -v rsync version 2.3.1 Copyright Andrew Tridgell and Paul Mackerras admx::nkapoor> telnet testor 873 Trying...
