Simple audio recording app?
Hi,
I'd like to get my microphone to work (mainly to use it with Skype).
I've just been looking for a simple audio recording app, as I vaguely
remember having seen such a thing before, only I can't seem to find it
anymore. I'm using the default GNOME desktop with the latest CentOS 5.
Any suggestions?

Skype on CentOS 5 - my microphone settings are incorrect
Note: The Wiki for Skype needs a tiny update.
http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Skype
It's not a Beta now. Last night, I downloaded and
installed skype-2.0.0.63-centos.i586.rpm
The Skype web site calls this a "Gold" release.
I'm having the same problem I had when I tried to use the Skype Beta.
It's not picking up audio from the microphone. The hardware works
fine, when I'm

Correctly setting up sound with Intel High Definition ICH7
Hi,
Earlier this day I started a thread about Skype not working with
outgoing sound. Now I wonder if it's not a problem with my soundcard. I
had a vague suspicion about this, but since it's way off the original
topic, I decided to start a new thread about this.
Here's what the soundcard looks like:
[root at grossebertha etc]# lspci | grep -i audio

[offtopic] idea status.net
Hey all
I was sitting here thinking about things and I came up with an idea
that sounded, at least in my head, like a good one. There has been a
boom in things like twitter and brainbird and social networking setups
in general. I was wondering if the project or anyone would be interested
in setting up a status.net server specifically for the CentOS project ?
Why? you ask, well here are some of

Recording piano and voice
The last time I wanted to record a voice announcement on my computer was a few years back, and as I recall I hooked up my Microsoft Lifechat headset and used Audacity to do the recording.
Now I want to record a "recitation", which consists of me playing my piano and talking over it.
I have a Casio CDP-230 digital piano but I've never tried hooking it up to my computer and making a

Update troubles for wxGTK apps
Hi,
I have a CentOS 5.2 desktop with the RPMForge repo enabled. I just ran
'yum update', and there seems to be some trouble with the wxGTK apps. A
simple 'yum update' gives this error message:

Newbie with problems on Debian Sarge
I have a Debian Sarge box that I am trying to get icecast2 and ices2 up and
running on. I'm having problems, but do not know where to look to identify the
problem.
I have my audio working with ALSA - microphone in plays through my audio out.
I'm running a basic configuration using the defaults provided, and the ALSA
example config file for ices.
When I try to connect to the server using

Skype vs. CentOS: no outgoing sound
Hi,
I've spent the best part of a sunny afternoon trying to get Skype to
work on my CentOS 5 desktop.
My soundcard seems configured OK.
I can play sounds and hear them OK in my headset:
$ aplay /usr/share/sounds/alsa/*.wav
I can record speech from my microphone OK:
$ arecord > ~/test.wav
... although I have to say that sound quality seems rather poor. It's
quite fuzzy. Other

Music while you work - or not
Wanting to listen to magnatune.com while I worked, I discovered that flash is
not working. It appears that I don't have libflashplayer, but yum tells me
that no such package is available. I must need a different repo, I think,
but what? Currently I have
ls /etc/yum.repos.d/
adobe-linux-i386.repo epel-testing.repo
CentOS-Base.repo kbsingh-CentOS-Extras.repo

Re: aec
I've tried some further debugging to see what mdf is
actually doing. Instead of sending:
tmp_out = (float)ref[i] - st->y[i+st->frame_size]
to the output, I just sent
st->y[i+st->frame_size]
to see what was being subtracted from the microphone
input. When I open this in Audacity, I see a very
small signal at about -40dBm. The actual echo in my
sample has a power closer to -20dBm.

I/) Settings for Skype
I've managed to get Skype set up and working. I can hear the other
person talking, but she can't hear me. During a conversation, I tried
what I thought to be all possible settings in both the "Volume Control"
application and in Skype itself. But no joy.
To make matters more puzzling, I had skype working on this same machine
last year using CentOS 5.6... or maybe it was

Re: aec
Thanks for alerting me to the new changes. I just
tried the latest code from SVN, but unfortunately I
still have just about the same results. The estimated
echo that gets subtracted from the actual echo is such
a small signal that it doesn't really result in any
noticeable echo attenuation.
I currently have my filter size set to 2 seconds even
though the echo in my microphone file is only
