Any ETA on 5.4?
I can wait, I just have a project coming up and am planning. I remember seeing a post a couple of weeks back that RedHat 5.4 was released and at that time a couple of weeks was thrown out for Centos 5.4 being released. Are we still on schedule? centos5 iptables expert needed
Hello, I'm setting up a centos5 router for a friend. It will direct traffic to an internal webserver, already in place, as well as run squid proxy. It should do nat and have a firewall with iptables. I've set up routers before for this purpose but always of the bsd type and using their firewalls. I understand the concepts, nat, packet filtering, etc. but i'm not getting

Website running slow and Timing Out, but at random...
I have a site running the current version of Centos 4.2, it has a shopping cart running on it and runs slow and times out at random. The cart is a simple php package using a MySQL database backend. Can any one think of ways to improve the speed in MySQL and Apache, I've had the cart checked by the software vendor, it's working like it should, they are pointing to MySQL or Apache and

Looking for an application to work with Centos
I'm looking for a application, and or ideas on how to .... Set up a web page that can be cataloged by search engines capturing all of the part numbers in a db. This page would be tied to a MySql or other Linux DB so that people can also do a basic on site part number search.. We have 150,000 different part numbers, we would like all 150,000 picked up by the different search engines.

SELinux permissions for apache
Exactly, SELinux is great. Its a good room to have when you can get it working and it's another good layer of protection. Its better to learn to use the tool then just turn it off. Not every label has a rw option but it never hurts to try. :-) On Jan 22, 2015 1:18 PM, "Tim Dunphy" <bluethundr at gmail.com> wrote: > > > > The easiest answer is to edit the Selinux

SELinux permissions for apache
Hey Jeremy, > Have you tried changing the folder where it's writing into with these > lables? httpd_sys_content_rw_t or httpd_user_content_rw_t Adding 'rw' to the command did the trick. I tried httpd_sys_content_rw_t and that works fine! Thanks for the tip! Tim On Thu, Jan 22, 2015 at 1:19 PM, Jeremy Hoel <jthoel at gmail.com> wrote: > Have you tried changing

ClamAV help needed
ClamAV is installed on my CentOS box. I edited the conf file and assumed all is well. Clearly it isn't. Every day I see in logwatch that my signatures are updated, and the database notified, but if I try to scan a file manually it tells me that my signatures are 55 days old. I tried looking at a how-to, in the hope of identifying the problem, but it is hopelessly out of date, and I

Zimbra MTA and Contact package?
Does anyone have any feedback on the Zimbra MTA and Contact software? I just saw that Comcast is going to start using the software, I played with it over a year ago and dumped it. It seems to have been developed much further and works, open source and compiled for RedHat 4 Enterprise. Any feedback would be helpful... Thanks, john

Anyone have some opinions about them? mark "or should that be how many opinions do folks have about them?"

Best practice, dev/test/staging/production environments
I like the Stanford Best Practices guide for puppet. One thing I didn''t see it address was handling of separate environments, for example Dev, Test, Staging, Production. My thoughts on this so far, are: brainstorm #1) Handle environment differences with metadata: node devProductName01 { $env = "dev" include ProductName-webserver } node testProductName01 {

Best practice?
Hi, I am new to Ruby on Rails, and should like to validate the following assumptions: - static html is best placed in the public directory of the server such as Apache rather than the public or views directory of the RoR application e.g. static home page with links to my RoR application - under CGI/FastCGI, the server will first try to find files in its own filesystem before passing through
