VSftp, ssl/tls, slight issue with directory listings
Centos 6, stock installation, no additional repos added. vsftp works fine in regular mode, going to ssl I got issues. I get as far as 'directory listing' and it dies. It times out and disconnects. file: /etc/sysconfig/iptables-config added: IPTABLES_MODULES="ip_conntrack_ftp" (without this line, ftp normally fails, afraid it may be causing issues with the ssl) iptables -A

good small registrar?
Greetings, What are some registrars that members of this list have had good experience with? I was stepping through the godaddy checkout process, and being opted-in to a dozen different upsell features just left a bad impression. But I have no clue who else to go with. -Eugene -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:

IMAP servers and Sent/Junk folders
Hi, my users were recently moved from a uw-imap on HPUX to dovecot on EL5. Their sent items and folders went from a ~/Sent mbox file (when using SquirrelMail and Apple Mail both) to ~/mail/Sent for SquirrelMail and ~/mail/Sent Messages for other imap clients. I notice I can cat the files together and the only artifact is I end up with multiple "This message is part of the system do not

some notes on setting up vsftp on centos6
I was not sure why vsftp (or any other ftp software) was installed as part of the webserver. some quick notes, hope it helps anyone else having an issue. So I yum installed it. I had a bear of a time. But I finally got it to work doing the following. I had to add ip_conntrack_ftp to my iptables-config file or it would not work IPTABLES_MODULES="ip_conntrack_ftp" I had to add this

Vsftp is not writing a log file
No doubt I am making some stupid mistake in the log file, but I cannot get vsftp to create a log file showing the transfers. Here is my conf file: # Example config file /etc/vsftpd/vsftpd.conf # # The default compiled in settings are fairly paranoid. This sample file # loosens things up a bit, to make the ftp daemon more usable. # Please see vsftpd.conf.5 for all compiled in defaults. # # READ

[LLVMdev] Compiling natively vsftp with LLVM
Hi, I am using LLVM to compile vsftp to native x86 ELF code. One of it's object file (sysdeputil) contains inline asm so cannot be compiled by gcc-3.4 frontend. So I decided to firstly link together the llvm objects and libcrtend and compile it to native .o file and then link it with sysdeputil.o . The Makefile is sth like this: vsftpd: $(OBJS) gccld -r -native -o vsftpd.o $(OBJS)

vsftp 500 OOPS: SSL: cannot load RSA key

I have tried setting the following: rsa_cert_file=/usr/share/ssl/certs/inet06cert.pem which is the public certificate and this: rsa_cert_file=/usr/share/ssl/private/inet06key.pem which is the server private

stale dm-multipath mappings
Greetings, I've hit this exact 'bug': https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=491311 I need to remove the mappings manually. I assume this is done via 'multipath -F' followed by a 'multipath -v2' ? Has anyone experienced doing this on a production system? We can do it during hours of low activity, but we would prefer to keep the databases on this host online at

[LLVMdev] Compiling natively vsftp with LLVM
Hi, I have tried another way: ar rcs libsysdeputil.a sysdeputil.o gccld seems to recognize the file type. However, it stills find unresoved symbols which are actually the functions in sysdeputil.o (can be find out with `nm libsysdeputil.a`) The problem disappears if native gcc/ld tool chain is used. As another test, main.c: ----------------- extern void foo(); int main() { foo(); return

Shuld the daemon /usr/sbin/vsftpd be run as root or should it be ftpsecure? Or is the account only used to

pwconv with partial /etc/passwd
If shadow passwords are already in use, and new entries are appended to /etc/passwd that include password hashes, is it still possible to use pwconv to generate /etc/shadow entries for just the few newly appended accounts? Regards, Eugene

protecting multiuser systems from bruteforce ssh attacks
Hello, What is the best way to protect multiuser systems from brute force attacks? I am setting up a relatively loose DenyHosts policy, but I like the idea of locking an account for a time if too many attempts are made, but to balance this with keeping the user from making a helpdesk call. What are some policies/techniques that have worked for this list with minimal hassle? Thanks! -Eugene
