Trouble running 'alsamixer' as normal user on headless box with minimal system
Hi, I just transformed an old Pentium III 500 into a headless jukebox. It's installed in the basement, near the stereo. There's only a base CentOS system on it (GNOME unchecked, package customization checked and then everything unchecked). From there on, I just installed the ALSA utils, and vorbis-tools. The machine is only supposed to do one thing (and to do it well, UNIX philosophy

alsamixer and multiple audio cards
When I run kmix, there is a drop-down box in the upper right corner that lets me choose the audio device that kmix will be adjusting. If, however, I try to use alsamixer instead of kmix, there is only one (default) device that I can adjust. How can I tell to alsamixer that I want to adjust the volume of another card? And yes, this is related to my system-config-soundcard question... :-) Best,

Ssoundblaster audigy and alsamixer
I have an interesting problem. I have no sound through the sound card, but I can use the onboard sound ok. The reason I have no sound is that the slider for "audigy analog/digital output jack" is missing in the gnome mixer. The label is there, and a mute box are there, but no sliders. When I bring up alsa mixer in the console, there is a box for a slider, but no slider.

lightdm + xorg.conf + nvidia driver
Hello CentOS-Community, I have to maintain a server that should be useable with VNC and some software requires to run VirtualGL. Also a nvidia graphic card is installed. After downloading and installing the nvidia driver from nvidias homepage and modifying the xorg.conf as mentioned on the virtualgL-homepage, I am not able to restart lightdm anymore. Lightdm should be running, otherwise

xiph flac git build fails out of the box
Not sure where bug reports are going yet. I'd love to try to cross-compile with mingw, but git fails to build out of the box so far; these scripts work for most any other git tree I've used them on before. All that's done: ./autogen.sh ./configure --prefix=/home/avuton/src/mpd-release-utils/build-dir --host=i586-mingw32msvc - -build=x86_64-linux-gnu --target=i586-mingw32msvc

[flac-git] Install fails with --disable-doxygen-docs
Latest git [3b41451197f2cc7afb13753caaccbadaa74eca32] cross compiles perfect without patches (this is the first time I've seen this with any flac tree). Install fails with --disable-doxygen-docs; it's probably easy to fix, but here's the problem: make[5]: Entering directory `/home/avuton/src/mpd-release-utils/src/flac.git/doc/html/images/hw' make[5]: Nothing to be done for

Icecast 404 in the stats page
Hi, When I open the stats page on the icecast server, I get the basic info, but images and stuff generate 404's, although all the files are there and readable by the user that icecast runs under: This one works: 80.127.65.160 - - [30/Jan/2005:18:15:08 +0000] "GET / HTTP/1.1" 200 44 "-" "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; nl-NL; rv:1.8b) Gecko/20050129" 0

mpd configure and route issues
I have searched google high and low for answers to this...and I have gotten many examples, howto, etc...but they all seem to have a slightly different configuration, and therefore, slightly different problems. Unfortunately, not enough of them show the network layout, along with the configuration, so it's hard to tell why certain IP are being used, and were they are on the network. I have

SCCP questions
Hi! I have two, not too related questions: - the probably simpler one: if anyone can help me out using a Cisco 7905G with chan_sccp? I did already managed to get it working with a SIP image, I'd just like to see it work with this one as well. It's probably something I screw up with the configuration, as the phone registers, only I don't get any lines with it, although I have it

Deliver *sometimes* delivers via /tmp?
Hi, I'm running dovecot (1.1.7) deliver and sieve (1.1.5) on a Fedora 9 platform, using selinux targetet mode. Most of the mail deliveries goes well, but once deliver tried to copy the mail to the /tmp directory, which it seems it not allowed by selinux. I guess that deliver wants to sanitize the mail or something and therefore copies it to /tmp. Before I ask for selinux to allow this, I

Using MPD as an Icecast source (hint: using jack helps)
I thought I should report this: (In my case at least) defining a "jack" output for mpd caused a "shout" output to become operational. I was trying to configure mpd with a "shout" output to feed my Icecast2 server, but with no luck. Giving up, I fell back to option 2: Feeding my mpd output to darkice using "jack" as an interface. As soon as I had defined

asterisk & chan_sccp
ive got asterisk running with chan_sccp and three cisco phones (2 7910's and 1 7960). lots of bugs. when i press the speed dial button on either 7910, asterisk dies. also, if i dial from the 7910 to 7910, everything works fine. i can dial from or to the 7960 once, and then one of the 10's and the 60 die and try to reregister. if i take the 7960 out of the mix and remove its

Enabling auto-login
How do you enable auto-login? I went into /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf, uncommented autologin-user (and set it to = my login name), and uncommented autologin-user-timeout (and set it to = 0). Is there something else I missed? -- Jason Hsu <jhsu802701 at jasonhsu.com>

I've been using rsync for a long time, and it's very cool. For the first time, last night, I got a message I don't understand. I am using rsync 2.6.4 on Fedora (FC4) Linux to a Fedora (FC3) Linux machine. The command I am using is: rsync -av --delete-excluded --exclude="*~" --exclude="#*#" <source dir> remove_machine:<dest dir> I got the following
