ProFTPd under CentOS 5.2 running FTPS - iptables problem
Hello, I am setting up ProFTPd daemon (from EPEL repository) under CentOS 5.2 and I need encrypted connection. Daemon is configured perfectly, there is no problem - if iptables is off connection is smoothly established, but when iptables is on, connection in FTP client ends on command LIST without response. Last command with response (positive) is PASV. Thank you for your replies Martin ??astn?

authorized_keys command=""
Hello, as I have read manual, if I use in file authorized_keys option command="" with some command, no other commands will be permitted. Thit command was executed, but I was normally able to supply other comand as root. Can you tell me why? Thank

Samba "use sendfile" configuration option set do disabled as default - why?
Hello, I had problems with speed of Samba, so I was looking for some solution and I had discovered "use sendfile" configuration option. I was checking all Samba release notes and I had discovered, that from some version (older than is in CentOS repo) this option was turned on as default. So my question is, why in CentOS 5.3 is that option in default set to off? Thank you for responses

Mailboxes are in Maildir format. Any good backup tips? Had success with version control?
I'm still pretty new to running a mail server, but one thing I've come to appreciate over the years is a good backup strategy. Since I have always run my own servers for practice and for personal use I don't have access to Enterprise backup solutions. Because of that I usually just fall back to scripts and tarballs and offload the content on a regular basis. Right now I'm

Incremental backups?
So I thought I'd get a head start for next week - I have a low-power Linux box that has a few samba shares mounted, and limited hard disk space. This box is connected to a tape library via SCSI card. I want to find the best way to create a full, then incremental backup of the samba mounts, directly to tape. Some of the samba mounts are appliances that cannot run any special

How to emulate rdiff behaviour
Hi, i am new to rsync and i want to use rsync to emulate rdiff behaviour (because i can't install rdiff on the system). What i would like rsync to do is to generate a diff file (like with rsync --write-batch) but WITHOUT changing the destination file. This would allow me to store daily differential updates on the target (i think hardlinking would not help me much as the file is changing every

Reseted net statistics
Hi all, sometimes I?m checking status of my server with phpSysInfo, always is all right, but at May 8 I was experienced a "big deviation". My machine was online for 12 days, but net statistics are reseted. I was checked /proc/net/dev and there are reseted net statistics too. How is this possible? Just before I was experienced this problem I was updating two packages with yum

Encrypted remote backup?
Can anyone recommend a commercial off site remote backup service with a client (preferably FOSS) for CentOS 5, preferably that allows encryption of the data being backed up? Small scale, I'm primarily looking to just back up my mail folder on my server. I've been backing it up to local hd via rsync but that drive just died, I'd prefer to have it backed up to somewhere more stable

Backup server
Hi all, I've built a new backup server for our linux-clients. Is Amanda the way to go for a backup-solution? It seems to be pretty powerful, if a bit finickety to set up initially. The way we currently do backups is to use rsync from the clients to two folders on an older server that rolls over every other week. This worked fine for a while, but the rsync is cumulative and the users

Looking for assistance
We have about 5 servers spread out throughout the country: 2 Centos 4.4, 1 Red Hat and 2 windows machines- looking for some good ideas for a back-up solution. Our servers hold a lot of data, but only a small portion of it is crucial on any given day. That crucial portion is always changing (for example, this week the crucial files all relate to November- current and previous projects, and the next

C7 Backup problem
Good morning list, I've a question about backup performed with bacula. I manage a DELL server (dedicated on provider) with C7. I use bacula as backup system with volumes on disk. System performs mon-sat incremental backups and Sun full backup at 03.00 AM. I've another pool (named update) where I performs backup before each software update. Storage is on and external disk 2.5' of
