Audio issue(s)
I just bought a new (refurbished) Everexe StepNote laptop with a VIA
C7-M CPU and a VIA chipset, installed CentOS 5.4 on it and the audio
is not working.
I looked around for a sound driver for the VIA vt1708/a, which is what
it claims to have (see below), but that didn't work either.
Any pointers as to what I'm missing?

Why are bridges required?
Hi,
all the descriptions of networking setups with VMs I`m seeing involve
bridges. The only use I see for bridges is when I actually want to be
able to send network traffic to multiple arbitrary interfaces connected
to the bridge. I do neither need, nor want bridges when I want to keep
the VMs separated, like when separating a VM in a DMZ from a VM in the
LAN.
The bridge acts like a hub.

Bigpond Media Downloader works with Wine
Hi there,
This is my first EVER linux-based post (scary!). Just to say I switched to linux (Xubuntu 9.04) yesterday from XP, and have got everything that HAD to be exe working, including Bigpond Media Downloader. Bigpond is an Australian communications network, who also sell songs, movies, etc. They have a media downloader specifically for their files, which was making me a bit nervous - it's

Help me to understand BDC
hi
short question ->
if i set up samba 3.0 as BDC with an NT pdc and a client wants to login
to the domain, but his account is only stored (for tests) on the BDC:
should he be able to authenticate successfully?
or can he just login, if the *PDC* responds positive?
thx in advance

Parallel port access
I have a small Visual Basic app for a prom programmer which uses the
parallel port (lpt1) to control the programmer. It uses a third party
dll (io.dll) to give vb direct access to the hardware. I cannot get wine
to see that port at all. I have given myself rw mode to /dev/parport0,
there is a link (ln -s /dev/parport0 lpt1) in ~/me/.wine/dosdevices as
described in the user notes. The app is a

Samba and java
Hi,
I have sent this message before does any one have any ideas? We really need
to be able to run Java class files from the root of a samba share. I think
that the problem may have to do with Samba file name mangeling and that this
may be preventing the java virtual machine from finding the calls file
through the classpath environment variable.
Here is the original message.
Can any one help?

building on Solus
Hi Charles,
Thanks for your help.
Seems to be mostly ok except am getting error access denied. See below.
I see from searching this is a common error but so far I can't find a fix.
This is how I configured things before make and install.
created group nut

created system user ups with group nut.

Flatpak request
I am using NUT on Linux Mint with no issues. Installed from PPA.
However I have tried on 3 occasions to build from source for Solus 3 and
have had no luck.
Is there a possibility of NUT being built into a Flatpak so all
distributions can use it.
If it was available on Flathub it would be a simple and foolproof way of
installing it.
Many thanks for a great application.

models and validation problem
In my model, I am attempting to correct some bad data rather than just
pass an error message back to the user. The problem is that my fix
seems to get the data past validation but it then puts the bad data into
the database rather than the new(and improved) data. If I pass in
web_site with the value of ''www.test.com'', it will pass validation but
it won''t add

I tried using applydeltaiso and it creates a 2gb ISO
but I notice it fails on applying.

btw - I installed your x86_64 rpms that has the ich9

without all the options.

all-generic-ide irqpoll
Without irqpoll it just hangs and without
all-generic-ide it get a kernel panic. So I still
need both to recognize the disk and continue booting.

Oops sorry, ugh another poor selection of words as I
meant to say "When I saw the rest of my post snipped,
I then realized that last request sounds really bad,
which was not my intention.
