Help with NFSV4 server
Hi Everyone,
I have been trying to setup an NFS v4 File Server but have come across
an odd issue. Mounting the /nfs4exports/share appears to be successful
and the information displayed about partition size and free space seem
correct but if I try to do anything inside the mounted directory the
client will just hang. Does anyone have any idea what I am missing?? I

NFS Mount: files owned by nobody
This is one of those simple-been-doing-this-forever things that, for
some reason, has me stumped today.
When I try to NFS (v4) mount a directory, the user/group ownership shows
up as user "nobody" even though /etc/passwd has values for the correct
user names. How do I get it to mount with the correct user IDs?
Hume is the server, running CentOS 6, all updates applied, maybe a week

btrfs over nfs
I have been experimenting exporting btrfs subvolumes over nfs. Main
subvolume is filesys1 mounted at /filesys1. Below this is subvolume
base, user1 is in base and documents is in user1. documents is
mounted at /documents. /etc/exports is:
/filesys1/base/user1 172.16.0.0/24(rw,no_acl,no_root_squash,fsid=0)
/filesys1/user1-snapshot 172.16.0.0/24(rw,no_acl,no_root_squash,fsid=0)

NFSv4 "Missing" Data on Clients
Hello all. I converted my server from Fedora Core 3 to CentOS 4.1 and I've
been slogging unsuccessfully through an NFSv4 problem. I'm using the same
configuration for NFS that I had in place on FC3 that worked. On the server,
I have the following data structure:
/data
/data/archive
/data/pictures
/data/music
Each is a separate ext3 filesystem mounted with rw,acl. /etc/exports

nfsv4 and kerberos - fails to mount
I have been trying all sorts of things to get this working.
nfsv4 works fine if I just use the nfs-v3 form of export
i.e.
/nfs4exports
192.168.230.237/24(ro,fsid=0,sync,insecure,no_root_squash,no_subtree_check,squash_uids=0-99)
/nfs4exports/NDG
192.168.230.237/24(rw,insecure,no_subtree_check,nohide,sync,no_root_squash,squash_uids=0-99)
but this is inherently open to all on this machine.
so then

Problems with descriptions.
Hi guys!
I can?t find an answer in google, so my last hope is this mailing list.
Story.
I have two servers with same arrays. Servers connected by DRBD.
I used ocfs2 as file system, also I used NFS4 to access to the
ocfs2 drive. I do not have any idea, but the allocated descriptors in
/proc/sys/fs/file-nr increasing every time while drive accessed.
So after some time allocated descriptions over

permissions changed by rsync over nfs?
Hello wonderful rsync
I have a little problem...
I sync a file system with this command:
rsync -avzAXH --filter="-r *.jpg *.opml *.opml.backup *.m3u"
--delete-after --exclude=MP3s /home/Music/ /misc/bigdisk.mythtv.lan/Music
/misc/bigdisk.mythtv.lan is an nfs mount mounted by autofs.
In /etc/auto.misc I have for /misc/bigdisk.mythtv.lan:
bigdisk.mythtv.lan -fstype=nfs4

NFSv4 on CentOS 4.5
Hi. I'm having trouble accessing a shared directory over NFSv4 on a
CentOS 4.5 machine.
My export file reads
/test 10.0.0.0/255.0.0.0(ro,async,insecure,nohide,no_subtree_check)
Running the mount command with NFSv4 as the filesystem gives me a
permission denied error.
[root at pebble-anoop ~]# mount -v -t nfs4 pebble-anoop:/test/ /mnt/
mount: pinging: prog 100003 vers 4 prot tcp port

NFS, acls, proto, and "kernel: svc: unknown version"
Hi all,
1) My NFS3 clients don't display or obey existing non-POSIX ACLs on
files of NFS3-mounted exports.
2) setfacl on the client throws error and fails :
# setfacl -m u:stowler:rw testfile.text
setfacl: testfile.text: Operation not supported
3) at time of client mount the server's /var/log/messages shows
"kernel: svc: unknown version (3)".
Any thoughts greatly

Slow header fetching rate over nfs mailspool.
We are setting up a Dovecot over a pair of NFS which mirrored with DRBD
+Heartbeat,
under Debian Etch AMD64 with Kernel 2.6.22-5.
The problem was slow header downloading rate. We had tried to use
postal to inject 500 emails which are under 5KB each,
but when ever we start up Mail.app, Thunderbird or even OE6, the
header download rate is terrible slow.
Its look like a few sec for just 1

Rsync ACLs over NFSv4 to EXT4 - rsync_xal_set: lsetxattr - Operation not supported
I think this is an NFS or ext4 question, but wanted to post this here for a
sanity check. :) I've been searching for over a week for a solution and
have turned up nil.
I'm trying to rsync with options -AX over an NFSv4 mount TO an ext4 drive
FROM an ext4 drive and both have acl and user_xattr enabled. The command:
rsync -aAX /data/ /mnt/back/data
results in:

NFSroot is acting strange in CentOS5
Hello all,
I have observed a problem with a diskless PXE client I am attempting
to configure. PXE/NFS/DHCP/TFTPd server is running CentOS5.1 and the
Diskless workstation's root and kernel was extracted from a CentOS5.1
(custom kernel due to setting to enable Root File System support).
Problem: When the diskless client boots and logs in I notice that my
root user is being squashed, even if I

Correct usage of NFS mounted Maildirs
Dovecot 1.0RC15 running on Fedora Core 5 kernel 2.6.18-1.2257.fc5smp.
A SLES10 server (kernel 2.6.16.21-0.8-smp) has the home directories on
an ext3 partition mounted with options (rw,acl,user_xattr,usrquota)
which is then exposed as an NFS mount with server side options
(rw,no_root_squash,no_acl,async). The home directories include Maildirs
to which postfix delivers.

Rsync ACLs over NFSv4 to EXT4 - rsync_xal_set: lsetxattr - Operation not supported
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Xattrs are not supported via NFS:

I would suggest letting rsync do the networking between the Linux
systems (probably over ssh). This will also prevent you from being
stuck in --whole-file.

Hey John,
Hehe, I got the right guy then. Very nice! And very good ideas but I
may need more time to reread and try them out later tonight. I'm fully
in agreement about providing more details. Can't be accurate in a
diagnosis if there isn't much data to go on. This pool option is new to
me. Please tell me more on it. Can't find it in the file below but
maybe it's
