net rpc join fails the first time but succeeds the second
Hi.
I'm having some trouble when trying to join a SAMBA machine, acting as
a member server, to a NT-style domain server managed by a SAMBA PDC
using an LDAP back-end. Both machines are running samba-3.0.10-1.4E.6
on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4.1 Update 3 for AMD64.
When trying to add the member server to the domain, it fails with an
error message. However, if I try to add it again, the

Changing a user's shell on CentOS Directory Server?
Should unprivileged users be able to change their shell with lchsh on
5.3 and, if it matters, CentOS Directory Server? lchsh seems to
require more open permissions than those which come with a default
installation:
Error initializing libuser: could not open configuration file
`/etc/default/useradd': Permission denied.

I run Samba with classic script "/usr/local/samba/smbd -D",
"/usr/loca/samba/nmbd -D" and "/usr/local/bin/winbindd -B" when I start the
server, all works fine I can set directory or file permissions in Webmin
"File manager" DOMAINNAME/group-user and the access works fine.

best practice: how to setup a central "network installation server"?
Hi,
I want to setup a central installation server, but haven't done this before,
so I want to find out what would be best practices for this?
The server I have already runs as a central repo, which is updated from one
or our local centos mirrors, and the other CentOS servers (both i386 & x64),
as well as CentOS VPS's get their updates from this server.
But, now I want to allow a

everything else with samba/ldap seems to work, I have

Possible to have Email-Adresses as logins?
Hi,
we want to set up a samba-server with an ldap-backend (so far no
problem, got this running already) but want the users to login to
workstations using their email-address instead of a "normal"
login-name.
I already figured out that i cannot add unix users with an "@" in
their login neither via "useradd" nor via "smbldap-useradd", so i was

NIS libuser and auto-make of maps
I have my NIS user/group files separate from the system user/group
files using libuser to manage them and that works well, but I am
trying to find a way to get libuser to invoke a 'make' of the NIS
maps whenever it updates the master files. Is there a routine I
can configure in libuser to do this, or am I stuck having to do
it by cron?

Is the smbldap-tools package no longer maintained?
I've been trying to find news on the smbldap-tools package from IDEALX
but my google searches have been fruitless. In my FreeBSD port build
run yesterday I noticed that the port is listed as *broken* because
the download link no longer works. Is there a new home for this code
or has it lost it's maintainer?
*Note* I was able to build against a cached download but if the

smbldap and samba as a PDC
Hi people, I have a problem with samba, openldap and the creation of machine
accounts.
I don't know if here is a good place to ask but I don't receive help in
other places.. I read many guides, howto's, etc. but
I can't get around with the solution...
I have seen an older message to another list (mail.gna.org) asking for the
same problem that I have, it was:

Sure, it's a newbie thing, but I'm willing to be at least ONE person has been bit by this....
Hi All,
I have a Samba system I fire up once in a blue moon for testing, and had
a bit of a minor heart attack when it "suddenly" stopped letting me
access shares as anyone other than root. Security is set to "user" since
it's not a domain member server. My office requires that passwords get
changed every 90 days, and the last time I accessed the server was on

Error when creating user with Samba 3.0 & LDAP
Hy,
I just install OpenLDAP 2.0 and Samba 3.0. (both from RPM).
I used tools from idealx (found in src from Samba 3.0) to populate the ldap
tree. My ldap is empty when i start, i just added index and samba.schema in
slapd.conf.
I used net rpc getsid to generate my domain SID and put in the
smbldap_conf.pm with others options (dc, ou, dn etc.)
I didn't get any error with this tool, it create

yum update after fresh 5.6 install fails
Hi,
I just finished installing a CentOS 5.6 x86_64 system and the first
thing I wanted to do after the install is to apply the software patches.
But I get the following error when I try to run 'yum update':
Package libuser-0.54.7-2.1.el5_5.2.x86_64.rpm is not signed
and yum update exits without applying any of the patches.
I tried clearing the cache and re-running the update
