package versions and external checks
Hi all,
I''m looking into a way to centrally manage installed packages on a
fairly fine-grained level. We prefer not to blindly install every new
update, but when a mechanism in which we can "approve" of a certain
version or not. At first I was thinking about something external to
puppet, but then I remembered that it''s possible in puppet to tell
which version needs to

best parallel / cluster SSH
Hey folks,
I stumbled upon this while looking for something else
http://www.linux.com/archive/feature/151340
And it is something I could actually really make use of. But right on
that site they list 3 different ones, and so I'm wondering what all is
out there and what I should use.
Is there one that is part of the standard CentOS?
thanks,

New Introduction
Hi all,
I''ve just rewritten the Puppet introduction from scratch:
https://reductivelabs.com/trac/puppet/wiki/PuppetIntroduction
I think it''s better, but I''m not convinced it''s a whole heckuva lot
better.
Comments are very much appreciated, especially if you can recommend a
better approach to the document. I tried to organize it how I have

Asterisk 1.2.9 cli "-x" doesn't flush?
We have a script which executes "asterisk -n -r -x ....." periodically
against the running server, to check the status of a few things, and
pipe the output to a file.
With prior versions of Asterisk this worked fine, but having just
upgraded to 1.2.9, we are finding that if the output is lengthy, then
Asterisk seems to terminate before fully flushing stdout.
Is this a known bug, is

show queue ... Invalid
Hi!
I've added member to a queue like this, from queues.conf:
member => SIP/1070@peername
It works OK. But, after restaring I see in show queue that
Members:
SIP/1070@peername (Invalid) ...
What does it mean? Why is it Invalid? BTW, reload command fixes it, so
the member receives queue calls.
Thanks!

new to puppet - can puppet push its content to remote servers?
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Hi,
I was made aware of puppet a few weeks ago and I really like the way
things are working.
What I liked at cfengine was the capability to push content from the
central server to any node. There was no need to open a port from DMZ or
any other remote system to the central server.
Is there a similar way within puppet?
How is this solved by other

Modules review
Hello,
i have written some modules for Puppet and would be thankful, if someone
could take a look for quality enhancements.
http://194.94.79.17/hotkey/puppet.tar.gz
The only nasty part is, that i have defined some global variables at the
site.pp, which i am using at several templates.
And i am looking for a solution to collect the hostnames and ipaddresses
of all connected nodes, without

Turn off client autoupdate
Hello!
By default puppet node connects to server periodically and looks if
there is something execute. I''m wondering is it possible to make
puppet clients not connect to server themselves? So that it would be
possible to update a node only with puppetrun nodename.

Multiple windows shell multiplexer...
Hi,
I am currently using keyboardcast but I had to modify the sources to make it behave "properly" (light, auto-placed, auto-tiled windows, etc) and... I lost my modifications and do not want to recode it once more... :/
I wanted to use mssh (not the python one, the one from Bradley Smith) but I cannot find an rpm and cannot compile it on CentOS 5 due to a too old vte-devel library

Yes: not cloning machines.
There?s too many things to take care of for these. The VM UUID in
libvirt. The systemd machine ID. SSH hostkey and SSL private key.
The RNG seed. The various places where the hostname is written to
during software installation. The

Rsync and ssh with passwordless authentifikation
Is it possible to konfigure a passwordless authentifikation in kombination
with ssh.
for example:

the user1 only exists on server1.
server2 wants to replicate a foler from server1 to himself.
the rsync process uses the rsync_user, which exists on both machines.
the rsync process asks every time the job runs for the password

ssh host keys on cloned virtual machines
Hi list members,
does any one of you have a best practice on renewing ssh host keys on cloned machines?
I have a customer who never thought about that, while cloning all VMs from one template. Now all machines have the exact same host key.
My approach would be to store a machines MAC address(es). Then when starting the sshd.service, check if this MAC has changed. If so, remove all host keys, let

naming boxes in boxplot
Hi, this may be a too simple question, but I was not
able to find how to do it.
So when I boxplot two vectors, i.e.
x<-rbind(1,2,3,4)
y<-rbind(3,4,5,6)
boxplot(x,y)
, could somebody tell me how to name the two boxes as
apple and banana?
Thanks much,
Haun
