CentOS-DS Configuration/Setup Issue
All, I'm running CentOS 5.4 and I've installed the CentOS Directory Server by running yum -y install centos-ds* without any errors. But as soon as I attempt to run the setup I get the following: [root at jpdsys3 ~]# /usr/sbin/setup-ds-admin.pl Can't locate Setup.pm in @INC (@INC contains: /usr/lib64/dirsrv/perl /usr/lib64/perl5/site_perl/5.8.8/x86_64-linux-thread-multi

Processes launched from rc*.d and ulimit -n
I'm running fedora directory server on some boxes in a multi-master arrangement. The problem is that when dirsrv is lauched from init (on boot) the maximum number of allowed file descriptors (ulimit -n) is only 4096. That means that the slapd process can only accept ~4k connections, and it needs to accept ~10k or so. The value for nofile for all users in /etc/security/limits.conf (and

CentOS and Redhat Directory Server
I have implemented LDAP on CentOS successfully using Redhat's Directory Server and the great how-to on the CentOS wiki. Being new to LDAP, I have a question and maybe one of you guys can point me in the right direction: I have LDAP implemented on the network for logins to the workstation pcs. I also have an apache website that I now use LDAP for authentication. What I want, however, is

Do people use HostbasedAuthentication?
Do people actually use HostbasedAuthentication? It needs several steps to enable and generally seems quite arcane by now. I wonder if this is something that could be trimmed away... -- Christian "naddy" Weisgerber naddy at mips.inka.de

Password policies in the LDAP server
Hi We have some Samba servers using LDAP (389 DS) as backend. In the LDAP server, we have defined some policies to make the passwords stronger. When a user tries to change his password (Control-Alt-Del), this message appears in the LOGs: ==> /var/log/samba/xptest <== [2010/06/28 12:26:26, 2] auth/auth.c:check_ntlm_password(309) check_ntlm_password: authentication for user [10000001S]

Ever increasing time offset for HVM domain / Huge amounts of drift
Hi, I am currently running Xen 4.2.1 (this has also happened in 4.2.0 as well). We have been having a major problem with sometimes huge amounts of clock drift in Windows VMs. Sometimes the clock on a VM could suddenly jump by over a week (usually forwards, however time has been known to go backwards as well). Now I don''t profess to know the internals of Xen, however through my

Xen 3.1 - 32 vs 64 bit hypervisor
I''ve been experimenting with Xen 3.1. My requirements are to run lots 32 bit paravirt domains on large memory hosts (8GB or more). Previously I''ve used a 32 bit Xen with PAE hypervisor which works well. However I seen from the announcement that you can use a 64 bit hypervisor and still run 32 bit PAE domains. I''ve tried this and it works as advertised! What

Extend schema on CentOS directory server
Currently I am running freeradius with an openldap backend, I am looking to move to the CentOS directory server. The problem I am running into is that none of the RADIUS attributes I require are in the schema. My question is how do I update the schema with the needed freeradius attributes? is it as easy as taking the openldap.schema file that freeradius provides and renaming it to something like

Extending schema on Centos DS
I am running CentOS DS server (version 8.1.0) in a mixed master setup. I am looking for the best way to extend the schema without breaking replication? I was successfully able to extend the schema on my two servers manually but replication broke after a restart of dirsrv. CentOS 6, bareos, kerberos?
After upgradeding to bareos 15.2, which also has a web ui, thereby making it usable (since the command line tool, bconsole, does not have a paging mechanism, and its sytax for choosing files to restore is, let us say, arcane), I've got another question: is *anyone* using bareos with kerberos? I see that they have in alpha(?) tls support, which isn't a great idea, given the recent

feature request: add -a to scp for archive-style copy
This is a feature request for scp. scp has no easy option to copy symlinks, etc. to reproduce a directory tree. The -r option follows symlinks and reads the data out of device files when copying. A few years ago, the -a option was added to normal cp, replacing the cumbersome and arcane (cd wherever1 ; tar cf - whatever) | (cd wherever2 ; tar xpf - ) with cp -a wherever1/whatever wherever2

Proposal to change security=share in Samba 4.0
I recently proposed on samba-technical that for Samba 4.0, that we change security=share to have the following semantics: - All connections are made as the guest user - No passwords are required, and no other accounts are available. Naturally, full user-name/password authentication remain available in security=user and above. The rationale is that we need a very simple way to run a 'trust

[LLVMdev] RFC: Timeline for deprecating the autoconf build system?
I am an actual end user of LLVM who builds it from source and not a developer of it so I think I have an important perspective that is not represented here. Also I am pretty sure the llvmdev mailing is heavily biased and might not reach actual end users of LLVM. I use the Autotools build system for a number of reasons. If compromises or reasonable workarounds could be found I would be okay with

nss_pam against centos-ds fails for non-root users
Hi all, I'm new to LDAP and want to use nss_ldap (version 253) against a centos directory server (version 8.1.0) running on the same host. The great mystery is, that as root everything works find, but as any other local user, it does not: root$ getent passwd [...] ldap:x:55:55:LDAP User:/var/lib/ldap:/bin/false ns:*:4000:4000:Nicolai Stange:/home/ns:/bin/bash root$ su some_local_user -
