Using spec fixtures with integration tests
Hi all,
How can I use spec fixtures with rails integration tests ?
I''ve tried adding {{ fixtures "../../spec/fixtures/myfixture" }}
to the integration test but the fixtures are not loaded when I run the
rake task.
Rails doesn''t load symlinked fixtures either so I copied the files from
spec/fixtures for the time being. Not very DRY.
Any ideas ?

fixtures in before(:all)
I was planning on using a fixture within a description that didn''t modify
the fixture, so I put it in a before(:all) block:
describe "Customer", "xml" do
fixtures :customers
before(:all) do
one = customers(:one)
end
# ...
As a result, I got this message:
1)
NoMethodError in ''Customer xml before(:all)''

Rollbacks, Sqlite3 bug. Has this been reintroduced ?
Hey,
I just updated from the edge and it looks like this _issue_ has resurfaced.
Yesterday things were working (stories and specs).
No code base changes, only rspec and rspec_on_rails
After updating today I now need to set <config.txn...fixtures> to false in
the spec_helper.rb
to get the specs running, the stories are fine. Looks like the fixture
loading is trying to start a txn.

Fixture name not available as class variable in spec
Hi there,
I can''t seem to access the fixture name as a class variable from my

@my_fixture.id.should == 1

it_should_behave_like
I''m trying to use it_should_behave_like, and something seems to be wonky
with the syntax. When I add :shared=>true, the DSL complains that the next
line is the fixture declaration:

[OT] - In Memory Databases
My specs are still taking to long to run in a rails app. Is anyone
using an in-memory database to run their specs? Any pointers or tips?

drbspec - "no server running"
At times I''ve gotten the message "No Server Running" from drbspec
with my rails app. The thing is, the drb server certainly is running!
This happened a few times with my model specs. I''m not sure exactly
what the problem was there - I believe I was loading up fixtures that
didn''t exist. I was calling fixtures :singular_table_name as opposed

Rollbacks, Sqlite3 bug
Okay - so the sqlite bug reported a day or so ago on the list is real
bug. I''m going to file something in the tracker for that...
I also learned that before(:all)...after(:all) is not wrapped in a
transaction, the way before(:each)...after(:each) is. Is there some
reason behind this? Can you not wrap transactions inside transactions?

Problems with RC1 & Rails Controllers
I''m now using the 0.8.0 RC1 gem and have the same version of rspec
and rspec_on_rails checked out into my vendor/plugins directory.
I''m having a problems with controllers... I''ve generated a controller
using the ./script/generate rspec_controller MyController. When I
try to run the rake spec:controller task I get the following:

controller_name with dynamic controllers
I''m writing a controller which should only be inherited from,
something like the generic crud controller seen here: http://
geekonomics.blogspot.com/2006/07/crud-and-shared-controllers.html
Now, in my spec, I would like to create a controller which inherits
from the generic CRUDController, without actually creating the
controller. This controller is *only* for testing.

spec.opts: questions about formatters, etc.
Questions concerning spec.opts:
1. Am I correct in believing that each option should go on a
separate line of spec.opts in the rails spec directory? If this is
so, why is it so?
2. Using a formatter in spec.opts doesn''t seem to work. Here is my
spec.opts file:
--colour
-f s
and this is what happens when I run the rake task:

using RSpec''s trunk in non-rails projects w/ Autotest
I believe for rails projects you can put rspec''s code repos into
vendor/plugins, and autotest will automatically use the rspec binary
in that directory, and not the gem installed.
Is there an easy way to do this for non-rails projects? There are a
few advancements on trunk which I would like to take advantage of.
Tips welcome ; ).

Spec failing [Possible Bug with kind_of? and instance_of?]
I have a spec which is failing, but I just can''t say why. Maybe I''m
missing something painfully obvious?
Here is the pastie of the results & the spec:

using YAML for --failures and --examples
As it is currently, in trunk, --failures and --examples except a text
file, each line containing the name of a spec.
I''m wondering: Would a a patch to use YAML (instead or as well as)
plain text be welcomed? I''m thinking of a yaml file like the following:
spec_file_1:
file: spec/person_spec.rb
specs:
- should have first name
- should provide email address

Transactional/Rollback problems
I''m having a rollback problem with rspec trunk. It doesn''t seem like
rollbacks are happening quite as often as they should be. It
appears as though the rollbacks are *NOT* occurring on the first
description block in a file, but are for the rest. Here is a set of
specs that are failing:

Stubbing out required associated models
Hello,
As I''m becoming more and more familiar with mocking/stubbing, I''m going back
to some of my model specs and revaluating how I wrote them.
I have certain models in which validation requires the presence of an
associated model, which itself needs to be valid(validates_presence_of and
validates_associated).
When I wrote the specs, I wrote helpers for the attributes instead

rake w/rspec
How can I spec out a rake task?
How can I use rake in my spec''s? I want to fix this rake

How would I get out of autotest? My initial thought is just to run
the command in the spec.

Using a subversion repository to spec in a rails app
Is it a bad practice to use a subversion repository to the trunk of
rspec and rspec_on_rails? Or rather, is it doomed to fail, since my
gem will always be out of date?
I know I can''t use spec, installed from gem,s if I have the latest
revision of rspec and rspec_on_rails checked into my plugins
directory. But I should still be able to use it with the --drb
option, correct?
