Samba and iptables - woes
Hi folk, I am trying to get iptables working on a samba server but find it is blocking something that prevents the windoze clients from being able to access the share. here are the bits from iptables: > # nmb provided netbios-ns > -A RH-Firewall-1-INPUT -p udp -m udp -s 192.168.230.100/24 -i eth1 > --dport 137 -j ACCEPT > # nmb provided netbios-dgm > -A RH-Firewall-1-INPUT -p udp

nfsv4 and kerberos - fails to mount
I have been trying all sorts of things to get this working. nfsv4 works fine if I just use the nfs-v3 form of export i.e. /nfs4exports 192.168.230.237/24(ro,fsid=0,sync,insecure,no_root_squash,no_subtree_check,squash_uids=0-99) /nfs4exports/NDG 192.168.230.237/24(rw,insecure,no_subtree_check,nohide,sync,no_root_squash,squash_uids=0-99) but this is inherently open to all on this machine. so then

Hi List, Before I spend hours chasing this - my initial google search seems to indicate that javaWS and JNLP apps with sound do not work on CentOS systems. default gw route has gone?
Weird behaviour. A couple of days ago I installed another DSL router. During the process I have somehow caused the default gw route to disappear - on system start up the interface comes up fine, I can see and connect to the local subnet but not to the internet. miro from rpmforge appears to have dep solving issues
Hi folks, Anyone know the whereabouts of libgtkembedmoz.so()(64bit) as it is needed by miro-1.0-1.el5.rf.x86_64 (rpmforge) I tried a whatprovides and have looked at epel as well as rpmforge - no luck. CentOS7 changes strike again.
Still in the process of migrating from an old CentOS5 server to a brand new CentOS7. After finally getting Virtualbox-5.0 installed and a new Wondoze10 Pro installed it became time to shift the data from the old server to the new. The old server is headless and I installed the old WindozeXP into the Virtualbox4.x via the command line. To do some of the admin I needed to attach to the windoze

"selinux --disabled" in kickstart file does NOT disable SELINUX
To set selinux to permissive or disabled mode during a kickstart installation, add the sed -i -e 's/\(^SELINUX=\).*$/\1permissive/' /etc/selinux/config command to the %post section of the kickstart file. Making sure to replace "permissive" with the required selinux mode. -- https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=435300 On 26 May 2015 at 04:40, Rob Kampen <rkampen at

connection refused resolving - after 5.4 upgrade
Hi all, prior to 5.4 upgrade, my two DNS servers would only get 'connection refused resolving .....' on rare infrequent occasions (once or twice a month) after upgrade to 5.4 I get 500+ per day. Google has suggestions for |logging category lame-servers null; ; ; |however this strikes me as severe overkill as it will mask genuine problems. Anyone else noticed this? Suggestions as to

log time formats - where is this defined
One of my servers is using ISO datetime formats (2011-02-27T15:22:15.519857-05:00) in the logs the rest use the default redhat/CentOS format (Feb 27 15:10:21). After a couple of hours searching google I cannot find where this is defined. I know I changed it some months ago as an experiment but forgotten where this was done. the ISO format breaks logwatch - thus I need to revert. TIA

5.4 kernel versions?
Please excuse a possibly dumb question. Prior to the release of CentOS 5.4 I believe two updated 5.4 kernels were released as part of 5.3 2.6.18-164.el5 and 2.6.18-164.2.1.el5 Now that 5.4 is released we have just the 2.6.18-164.el5 kernel. Now the dumb question - what happened to the updated kernel? I now have workstations running 5.4 with the 164.2.1.el5 as they get yum update run regularly,
