processor affinity
Hello,
i am running CentOS 5.4. i have a requirement where i need to have 1
application have a single processor all to its self, and the rest of the
system run on the other processors. "taskman" lets me bind the process
to a processor(s), but it does not make it exclusive. Is this possible
to do? i have even tried mucking around with the rc.sysinit, but to no
avail.
thank you very

creating disk images
I am familiar with using dd to create a disk image. dd if=/dev/hda1
of=myimge.img
However, is there a way to capture the entire disk image into a file.
I have 3 partitions:
hda1 /
hda2 swap
hda3 /home
and mbr
How can I wrap them all into 1 image file.
Thanks,
Jerry

New contributor
Hello,
I've just signed up to offer some of my time to the project as suggested by
Ernesto Celis on CentOS Spanish users' list.
I'd like to help translate the project's wiki pages to Spanish. I'll be
happy to receive some suggestions as to what would be my first assignment.
Cheers to you all and the biggest THANK YOU!

Slow Xen on CentOS 5.2?
Hello,
Should Xen still work on CentOS 5.2 with 1GB RAM? On my Toshiba
Satellite notebook Xen performed reasonably well as of CentOS 5.0.
After I updated the system, Xen takes an unusable startup time. Every
task at boot, since nash is fired, seems to take increasingly longer.
I can't seem to find any references to this problem. Where should I look first?
Thanks in advance

Screen blacked out
I have a CentOS 4.3 workstation I use for experimentation on my desk at work. It was plugged into an old LG 14" monitor, and I switched the video cable to a Samsung 17" LCD without rebooting.
The screen resolution was set to 800x600 on the 14" monitor, and the display worked fine at 800x600 after switching to the Samsung 17". When I changed the resolution to 1024x764, the

CentOS-friendly wiki engine ?
Hi,
One of our local town halls has asked me to implement a wiki-based
website dedicated to ecological farming. The wiki is supposed to host a
variety of documents in text, video and audio format.
I've never used any wiki engines myself. Is there any one you can
recommend in particular ? I'm using CentOS 5 on the server, so I would
be glad to use a solution where I don't have to

Building a live CD and live PXE
I have updated my instructions on how to roll your own CentOS-4 Live CD.
I also made a script which does it all for you. I have also got
instructions on how to turn the Live CD into a PXE bootable Live version.
All the details can be found here:

clustering vs. xen
How does clustering relate to virtual hosts under xen? Can you make a 2
host failover cluster as the xen dom0 and have it take care of the
guests or would you build 2 independent xen hosts and configure guests
as failover clusters? Or is there some other approach?

Net-SNMP interfaces out of order
Hello Centos People,
I have a CentOS 5.3 box that had a total of 5 ethernet cards in it. It
functions to share an internet connection with 4 different subnets. All
works fine, except I'm noticing that my MRTG traffic graphs are wrong.
Further digging with snmpwalk reveal that the order of the ethernet
interfaces changes every time the machine is rebooted to a different order.

gcc 4.1 and OpenMP?
I was modifying a source to add OpenMP capabilities. I knew that gcc
supports OpenMP since version 4.2, so I've compiled a recent (4.3.2)
gcc and installed in my home directory, this because gcc shipped with
CentOS 5.2 is 4.1.
I've then noticed that my executable links /usr/lib64/libgomp.so,
installed with gcc 4.1 from CentOS rpms... Is CentOS default compiler
OpenMP ready? Does

Wiki housekeeping...
1. If one of the Wiki admins would like to change my Wiki name
to CrisRhea, rather than crisrhea, that would be fine with me
(I currently only have the /HowTos/Xen/NvidiaWithXen page).
2. I'd like to create a home page for myself, but don't have permission.
If you guys still recommend using the home page for contact
info/comments on pages, may I please have one?
Thanks

suggestion for HOWTO: bonding multiple NICs
a student in my RHEL admin class this week specifically asked how to
use multiple NICs to add fault tolerance. a good question, i thought.
perhaps adding a short HOWTO on that wouldn't be out of line,
something like this:
http://www.how2centos.com/how-to-set-up-network-bonding-with-centos-5x/
i could even add that as a lab for future classes, where i simply
add two USB network adapters to
