IPVS support in current kernel
Is the IP Virtual Server available by default in the stock 2.6.18-128.1.14.el5? Or shall I compile my own kernel? I did check "config-2.6.18-128.1.14.el5" yet I am not that sure! :) Usually how long does it take to compile the kernel on a modern machine? I am using CentOS 5.3 32 bit thnx -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:

good small registrar?
Greetings, What are some registrars that members of this list have had good experience with? I was stepping through the godaddy checkout process, and being opted-in to a dozen different upsell features just left a bad impression. But I have no clue who else to go with. -Eugene -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:

Looking for recommendations for blocking hacking attempts
Hello: I have been looking into projects that will automatically restrict hacking attempts on my servers running CentOS 5. I think the two top contenders are: DenyHosts - http://denyhosts.sourceforge.net Fail2ban - http://www.fail2ban.org >From what I see, DenyHosts only blocks based on failed SSH attempts whereas Fail2ban blocks failed attempts for other access as well. The main benefit

Need info on vnet mapping to guests
Hello: I have a host running two KVM guests. The guests use br0 and each has a static IP address. I am trying to figure out if there is a way to use snmpd on the host to measure the traffic usage of the guests. I do not want to require anything running on the guests since I do not control them. Looking at netstat -in on the host, I see this info: Kernel Interface table Iface MTU Met

Window Server 2003 will not run as paravirtualized?
Hello: According to the Red Hat Virtualization Guide, Windows Server 2003 32-bit will only run as a fully virtualized guest on an AMD64 system. I thought I have seen a lot of discussion about running paravirtualized Windows on CentOS. Is that a bad idea? Implementing LVS changes made in Piranha GUI
Every time I touch something, pieces fall off! It's a good thing this stuff isn't in production yet (for me I mean). So I had an LVS, configured with Piranha, directing http test transactions across two servers. I used Piranha to add another realserver. It appeared in the lvs.cf file, but didn't appear in the ipvsadm output. So I stopped and restarted Pulse. And now *none* of the

Permission problems writing to Share from SQL Agent
Hello: I have a client that is using MS SQL Server in a Windows 2003 server. They have a Linux machine (Fedora Core 3) that is acting as a file server using Samba. We want to write backups from the SQL Agent for SQL Server to one of the shares on the Samba server. If I set the share to allow guest access, the SQL Agent can write the backups just fine using \\Shares\SQLBackups\pubs.bak but, if

Recommendation for PCI-e SATA RAID 5 card?
Hello: I am looking for a recommendation for a PCI-e RAID card for my server. The server has a PCI-e x16 low profile slot so the card has to be at most 6.6 inches long x 2.536 inches high. I would like to use RAID 5 with 3 drives so I have to have those capabilities. It has to be CentOS 5.4 compatible (Of course!). I took a look at the offerings from 3Ware, but their cards are too long. If

Shorewall and printing problems in the LAN ( loc ) zone
Guys, Just a quick check. From what i have read in the shorewall site, intrazone traffic is allowed completely by shorewall i.e. there is no filtering or packet size limiting ,etc, etc. I ask this becos after getting shorewall up and running well, someone has complained that they cannot print pdf files larger than 100k at one go but that they have to print one page at a time. Use 8GB RAM on Pentium D?
Hello: I have a Supermicro SuperServer 5015P-TR. It has a Pentium D and is running CentOS x86_64. Can this machine use 8GB RAM? I think it should because it is running a 64 bit OS, but I am concerned because it is fundamentally 32 bit hardware. Anyone have any experience in this area? reusing variables "best practices"
