windows server 2003 shares (smbmount & signing or cifs & kerberos)
hello everyone, the old problem persists :X I'm currently running Novell Linux Desktop 9 (SP2) featuring a 2.6.5series kernel. Smbclient (3.0.14a-0.4-SUSE) seems to support signing negotiation.. at least the following command works just fine: smbclient -k -L //hostname turning signing off manually (-S off) ends up in the common error message cli_negprot: SMB signing is mandatory and we have

Bug when copying files from a Samba directory mounted by cifs
Hello, I've been having a problem copying files from a Samba directory, mounted by cifs so that it's accessible from a Linux machine. The autofs service is used to mount the Samba directory on /samba/public/name with mount options "-fstype=cifs,guest,file_mode=0664,dir_mode=0775". If I do this: touch /samba/public/name/foo # create an empty file cp

CIFS mounting - can a remote directory be specified?
Hi all, I'm trying to mount a Windows share, which I am able to browse successfully with smbclient, with mount.cifs. I run smbclient as follows: $ smbclient //host/share$ -U user -D dir -W DOMAIN -D being the remote directory changed to before the smbclient shell appears (as I understand it) - this works fine. I'm running mount.cifs as follows: # mount.cifs //host/share$ local/ -o

cifs samba mailing list
For two days now I've tried for two days now to get cifs working on a redhat 9.0 2.4.20 based linux box. I followed the instructions given at http://de.samba.org/samba/Linux_CIFS_client.html, i.e. compiling cifs-0.6.8 and mount.cifs rev. 1.2.2.1. I successfully loaded the cifs.o as a module and following the given examples I tried: [root@r151-101 cifs]# /sbin/mount.cifs //raid/demo

CentOS 5.0 crash (cifs bug ?)
Hi I think I hit the cifs bug described at http://wiki.centos.org/TipsAndTricks/WindowsShares and http://bugs.centos.org/view.php?id=1776 As CentOS Wiki said, CentOS 5.0 do have a bug fixed cifs.ko, so I thought it should be in CentOSPlus repository ... so I upgrade my kernel and using 2.6.18-8.1.10.el5.centos.plus. After I use this kernel release, I check the cifs.ko and see the following: $

[cifs-utils PATCH v3 0/4] cifs.upcall: allow cifs.upcall to scrape cache location initiating task's environment
Apologies for v3 series, I had some extra patches in there. This is the one that should have been sent. Relabeled as v4 for clarity. Third respin of this series. Reordered for better safety for bisecting. The environment scraping is now on by default, but can be disabled with "-E" in environments where it's not needed. Also, I've added a patch to make cifs.upcall drop

CIFS, fstab, credentials
Hi, I just installed CIFS support on my machines and must say it works much better than smbfs. special characters alright, transfer speed doubled (from 2.8MB/s to 5.6MB/s on 100MBit). There's two issues tho I haven't been able to root out: -credentials file: tried username=<username> and password=<password> in /etc/credfile, tried user=<username> to match the

Question about mount.cifs and smbclient
Hi! I have a problem for a few weeks, and can't figure out what could be the problem. The client computer runs RHEL 5.2 (arch: x64_64); the smb server is unknown for us. I'm sorry, that I can't provide any info (usernames, servernames, IPs, etc), they are masked to look like variables. But they are correct as far as i am concerned. When I try to mount it with mount.cifs (.smbfs
