processing Dovecot maildirs with shell scripts
Hello,
I have a postfix server which uses procmail as its delivery agent to
deliver incoming messages to several maildirs. For several reasons,
not really relevant here, I need to process/refilter/sort again the
content of these mailboxes before delivering the messages to the
_other_ maildirs which Dovecot sees and serves to local or remote imap
users. Basically, I need to write some shell

URL of website doesn't point anymore to CentOS/Drupal installation
sorry for the vague subject, but I couldn't find a better one.
I have the website http://digifreedom.net running on a Centos 4 VPS
with Apache and Drupal 6.10 . This is a multisite Drupal setup: only
one installation, with subdirectories in sites/, and a separate mysql
database for each website. For several reasons, I had setup DNS,
drupal and everything to work without the www prefix on

passwd problem with new vps
greetings,
I am setting up Centos 6 i686 remotely, on a new VPS.
A problem I have is that I cannot set password for new users. I have
created one with
useradd -m new_user
but when I type
passwd new_user
this is the result:
[root at vps ~]# passwd new_user
Changing password for user new_user

ssh_exchange_identification: Connection closed by remote host
Greetings,
I have accounts on two Centos servers, A and B, each hosted on a remote
VPS by a different provider/datacenter.
Until yesterday night, I could connect without problems via SSH to both
servers from my home Fedora 16 desktop.
Yesterday I completed (fingers crossed) the switch to a different ADSL
provider. From the moment I turned on the modem on the new ADSL line, I
became unable to

Security checklist for new Centos server?
Greetings, everybody
I've browsed around a bit, but there seems to be no single practical
list of this kind.
What would you do to make a new Centos server which must run apache,
IMAP (Dovecot) and SMTP (PostFix) and nothing else for a few domains
as secure from attacks as possible, using only standard RPM packages
as much as possible?
(Please note that choice of other IMAP and SMTP servers

Best way to have Postfix 2.3 or 2.4 on Centos 4.4?
Greetings,
I would like to install Postfix 2.3 or 2.4 (I need support for SASL
authentication via Dovecot) on a Centos 4.4 server.
I have already found rpm packages at
http://postfix.wl0.org/en/available-packages/ and pages about using
the centosplus repo for postfix.
Before launching rpm or yum, however, I'd like to ask the list which
way you think is the best way to do this. By

Centos VPS providers in the European Union?
Hello,
I may need to set up soon a Linux VPS, to be used almost exclusively
for handling email (as in "2GB of disk space, 2GB/month of bandwidth
would be surely enough") with a fully customized
postfix/procmail/dovecot setup.
I'd prefer to use Centos, which I already use and know. One reason why
I'm asking this here is that I'd really like to be sure, before I go

Server CommonName mismatch: localhost.localdomain
Hello,
I have seen via google that this very problem was already discussed on
this and other lists some months ago, but the archives report no solution.
I have dovecot 1.0-0_12.beta8 on Centos 4.3. IMAP works just fine: I
can read email from both Squirrelmail via web and Kmail.
Now I have created an ssl certificate and I'm trying to use it via
pop3.
When I launch fetchmail I get the error

Check integrity or rootkits on remote server?
Hello,
when one has physical access to a computer, he
can run something like tripwire, with keys and
checksum on a separate, write-only media, to
verify the integrity of the system.
What if the system is a remote one (in my case
Centos 4.3 on a User Mode Linux VPS some hundred
of KMs from here)?
Does it still make sense to run tripwire remotely?
If yes, how, since you cannot plug a floppy or

put procmail between postfix and dovecot
Hello,
a couple of months ago, also thanks to help from this list, I set up
postfix and dovecot for virtual domains on a Centos 4 remote server.
I have postfix set up to deliver all email for marco at domain1.net to
/var/mail/vhosts/marco_domain1.net/
Everything is fine, as far as postfix is concerned: all email to
marco at domain1.net goes in that mailbox, dovecot sees it, etc...
Now I need

How to create a secure user only for ssh login?
Hello,
I've read on several howtos that one way to make ssh more secure, or
at least reduce the damage if somebody breaks in, is to NOT allow
direct ssh login from root, but allow logins from another user. So you
have to know two passwords in order to do any real damage.
Does this make sense? IF yes, what is the right way to create an user
only for this purpose, that is one that can only

How to open only these dovecot ports?
Hello,
I have not clear, due to the new syntax, how to configure dovecot 1.0
to listen only for the following combinations of ports and services:
no pop3, from whatever host
accept imap connections only if coming from localhost (since I
understand this is secure _and_ the only way to make
squirrelmail talk to dovecot)
listen on the internet only for imaps and pop3s connections, accept
them

non-digest format of this list?
I always get the messages of this list in a digest format.
This is bad to handle, esp. if you want to answer a question found
in the digest.
Does everyone else also get the list as a digest?
Is there a way to switch to single messages?
If not how do I easily answer messages which the subject correctly set?
Or how do I automatically split the digest into the separate messages?

procmail/formail --> Maildir
Hello List,
i switched mailformat from mbox to maildir. Now i have a little problem with procmail/formail and headermanipulation of mails.
Here an example:
0
* ^From.*gmx.de
| (formail -t -I"procmail: gmx.de") >> /var/spool/mail/xxxxxx
So, i can add some different headerlines for later evaluation and the result is attached to inbox.
Now i have the problem that i don't know

OT: procmail recipe question
I'm trying to use procmail and I'm having trouble getting it to set some
headers. I have one mailing list that sets ?Newsgroups: in the header
and I want to remove it. I have the following test recipe:

* ^Subject:.*\<testing
* ^(Mime-Version:|Content-)
| formail -IMime-Version: -IContent-
If I understand it correctly, it should remove the Mime-Verion and
Content headers.

Procmail/Formail problem on 6.3
Hi!
In the process of making mysystem work again, having just done a
reinstall of 6.3 x86_64.
I have a considerable collection of procmail recipes for filtering
mail in various ways, and since the upgrade none of 'em is working.
procmail passes every mail thru spambayes, which gives back a rating
on spamminess. this happens, so it's not as if procmail is simply
punting.

How to check for rootkit, troians etc in backed up files?
Hi,
there is a remote (VPS) Centos 4.2 server which *may* have been
compromised. Reinstalling everything from scratch isn't a problem, it
may even be an occasion to improve a few things, the question is
another.
There are backups of necessary shell script, ASCII configuration files
and more or less important email (maildir format, if it matters)
including messages with binary attachments in
