Mass installs of desktop systems on identical machines
Hi, I'm running a small Linux consulting business here in a group of small villages in the South of France (http://www.microlinux.fr). I'm using CentOS for everything, servers as well as desktops. The desktop installs are usually highly customized. My approach is to list the client's needs, find the corresponding applications and then install these, to avoid the bloat and

[Slightly OT] Data Preservation
HI All, So I have 5 1U servers (running Windows) that have Ultra 320 SCSI Drives in them. The owner of these boxes wants the drives captured in their current states to .iso or .cdr or something where if the need arises the data can be viewed, used again, etc. So what is the best approach? Boot from a Live CD, hook up a USB external HD and do what? Can I create a .iso or .cdr (or some

"chkconfig --list |grep tftp" shows tftp up and running on both boxes. When connected "tftp>status" shows it is talking to the other box "tptp>trace" shows "sent WRQ

Clonezilla SE with CentOS5
Hi all, I'm looking for a cloning solution for our Windows/Linux/*nix computer park and ran into Clonezilla. Apparantely the DRBL and other documentation mentions CentOS as a suitable base for it. Does anybody on this list use this solution and can say something about it in the running-Clonezilla-with-CentOS-context, be it recommendations, gotchas', warnings or whatever? Thanks. -- BW,

You can find my problems and results at [0]. What is really strange for me is that syslinux worked once, but not anymore. Perhaps you can give me you comment on

EL6: Hard Disk upgrade howto?
I have a tested copy of EL6 that I would like to duplicate to a number of similar servers, but can't seem to find a sane howto on the subject. TLDP's "Hard disk upgrade howto" is embarrassingly antiquated: when's the last time you saw LILO? What's the recommended procedure for doing an HDD copy/upgrade from one disk to another? Is there a nice, detailed howto that

I have two CentOS-5.6 machines, say A and B, and I thought I would copy / on sdb10 on machine A to an unused partition sda7 on machine B with rsync. I made the appropriate changes to /etc/fstab and grub.conf , as well as /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts , but found that there were innumerable

Clone a custom CentOS 7 desktop using G4L over FTP
Hi, A couple months ago, I migrated our local school (two servers, 20 desktop clients) from Slackware 14.1 to CentOS 7. The desktop clients are running a customized lightweight desktop based on Xfce: https://blog.microlinux.fr/poste-de-travail-xfce-centos-7/ Home directories are all on the server, and authentication is centralized. Everything works fine so far. With Slackware I had found a
