[SOLVED] iptables rule question for Centos 5
We have a simple configuration so we could get by with this
-A RH-Firewall-1-INPUT -m state --state NEW -m tcp -p tcp --dport 22 -j
ACCEPT
-A RH-Firewall-1-INPUT -s "SOURCIPADDRESS" -j REJECT --reject-with
icmp-host-prohibited
it doesn't scale well but servies the purpose.

vsftp and nonpriv_user option question
thhis didnt go through completely the first time.
I am a bit confused as to how this works.
I created a local unpriveleged user (with /bin/nologin shell).
i uncommented the line containing
nopriv_user=ftpsecure
and restarted vsftp.
I am confused as to what is supposed to happen.
Shuld the daemon /usr/sbin/vsftpd be run as root or should it be
ftpsecure?
Or is the account only used to

WIN40 printer driver on Solaris not being installed?
I am having problems with the driver installation for WIN40 (9x machines) in
Samba 2.2.5 / Samba 2.2.6pre2 on a Solaris 8 machine. I build binary packages
for both debian and solaris environments. For debian 2.2.5, I use the 2.2.5
source with the printing patch provided by Jerry Carter. I use the
packaging/Debian/debian systems to build and package the source. For Solaris

Specific PPD Files are not downloaded on an automatic installation
Hi there!
I am trying to get the samba cups integration to work.
After some fiddling I can now install the Adobe Postscript Printer driver
remotely.
Unfortunately Windows 98 clients (I haven't checked with NT,2000,XP yet)
only get the default ppd.
What is the proper naming convention for the ppd files? Currently we use the
printer DNS name pr100, pr101, pr102, ... Should the ppd files be named

can't create printers after upgrading cups
After upgrading cups on my CentOS 6 systems from version 1.4.2-72.el6 to 1.4.2-77.el6, I am no longer able to create working printers, either with lpadmin from the command line or with system-config-printer.
When I try to run lpadmin, I get this simple error:
[root at vlsi66 ~]# lpadmin -p newprinter -v lpd://printserver/serverqueue-E -P /path/to/ppd/thing.ppd
lpadmin: Unknown

It looks like this may just be a bug upstream:

Still trying the work-arounds.

using lpadmin to add printers in CentOS 7 (v. CentOS 6)
In CentOS 6, I could do:
lpinfo -m
then pick the model I want and put it as the option to -m in lpadmin
(line wrapped):
/usr/sbin/lpadmin -p printer -o printer-is-shared=false -o Duplex=None
-o Resolution=600dpi -m 'gutenprint.5.2://pcl-g_5e/expert Generic
PCL 5e Printer - CUPS+Gutenprint v5.2.5' -v 'socket://mydomain.edu'
Alas, in CentOS 7, no matter what I do, I always get:

iptables rule question for Centos 5
I have a server that allows incoming traffic for ssh and some other
things.
I need to set up a rule that will drop/reject all traffic from a
particular server except ssh.
How can I do that.

cupsaddsmb -v, Warning: PPD file not found?!
Hello all,
I am running a Debian testing/unstable system with samba 2.2.3a-6 and
cupsys 1.1.15-4 as a member server in a samba domain. I have used CUPS to
add a networked HP8100N printer and it works fine locally, but I'm having
difficulty adding it to samba for Win98 domain clients to use.
I ran cupsaddsmb to add the printer and drivers to samba, but it cannot
find the PPD file... where is

files not showing up in an nfs mounted filesysetm in timely manner
We have and nfs mount from a windows pc nfs server. A file is created
on the server, but can take as long as 50 seconds to become available on
the client.
We are running Centos 5.2 (final), using NFS version 3. Is there
anything we can do from the client side to see the file more quickly.
The files are very small, usually about 1k

frustrating - which ppd for win clients
I have had terrible luck trying to find a ppd that works correctly for
both win9x clients and winNT/2000/XP at the same time. The CUPS method is
to find one ppd that works for all and I have tried several: those at
linuxprinting.org, hp's sourceforge site, vendor winNT ppds (docs suggest
these), and vendor win98 ppds. I have tried filtering PJL and not
filtering PJL. I have the stock

Samba, Cups, Windows driver and PPD File updates
Greetings,
I am using Samba (both 2.2.8a and 3.0.4) on servers running CUPS and
have used cupsaddsmb to make the Cups drivers available for download to
the client PCs. Everything has been working as it should.
I need to make some changes to the PPD files on the CUPS servers. The
question I have is about propagating the changes to the client PCs.
I can either hand edit the copy of the PPD

Printing to a network printer and installing PPD files
I hope I am not asking an obvious question. I have googled and looked in the obvious places, but I may have missed it. Anyway my question is two fold. How do I configure for a network printer in Wine and how to I install the printer specific ppd file?
I am running 0.9.60, which I installed this week, on Mepis (Debian based with KDE and cups). I can print from PageMaker, but get a warning that

HP z3200ps printer ppd
Now that we've got the thing, does anyone know what ppd I can use for it?
I've seen someone recommending:
- the generic postscript ppd;
- the hplips driver.
I also see ppd's for a DesignJet 800ps, and ones for the 5000ps and
5500ps. Has anyone had any experience with any of these?

Samba 2.2 + CUPS driver download work for anyone?
I have tried everything I could possibly think of to get printer driver
download working with Samba 2.2.3a-6 and CUPS 1.1.15-4 (latest Debian
unstable packages). I am wondering if anyone else has go this to work at
all (with newer versions of samba or cups?) -- if so please let me know to
give me some hope. Or else I am thinking this is officially 'broken'.
CUPS is working perfectly

Problem printing to windows printer
Hello,
I've encountered a problem printing to a windows print share and am
uncertain how to go about resolving my problem. From what I've been able to
tell, the problem lies in samba.
I've got a fedora 13 box with samba installed and running on it. My goal is
to print to a windows print share.
I am able to use smbclient to query the print server and get a list of
shares and

samba, cups and cupsaddsmb
Hallo,
I have an old samba-cups printserver (debian woody), connected to the domain
through winbind,?that I must replace now.
I installed a new samba-cups server on a sarge machine. Windbind works, I can
get all users and groups.
I copied the generic windows postscript driver files as in cupsaddsmb-manpage
described to /usr/share/cups/drivers (tried also adobe drivers)
Also tried the same
