SLA/Shaping Question
Hi, I have a basic router that is shaping traffic, and it seems to be
working at the moment.
We have a 100Mbit connection to the internet, however we get charged for
each mbit that we use and so have to shape/limit the traffic to avoid
huge bills and my boss getting cross!!
We have a /29 subnets set up as follows:
tc qdisc add dev eth0 root tbf rate 0.8Mbit latency 50ms burst 10k

exact rate
Hello
I am using htb (krenel 2.6.14.3 + esfq patch from fatooh.org) to limit the
bandwidth. But I want the absolute maximum rate to be for example 5Mbit
and not to exceed it.
here is the script:
$tc qdisc add dev ${NETIF} root handle 1 htb r2q 4
$tc class add dev ${NETIF} parent 1: classid 1:21 htb rate 5Mbit ceil 5Mbit
$tc class add dev ${NETIF} parent 1:21 classid 1:101 htb rate 2Mbit ceil

Thanks in advance.

HTB and BOND Interface
Hi!
Is it HTB fully compatible with BOND interface?
I have this setup (mode= fault tolerance) :
BOND0 -> ETH0 + ETH1
BOND1 -> ETH2 + ETH3
)
HTB work very well with Class over BOND0.
If I add Class for BOND1 it generate balance errors.
Also with HTB.init

samba over internet slow with images/thumbnails
Hello,
Iam providing access to many images on a share to windows users from my linux samba over the internet. The problem is that I need thumbnail viewing because of the nature of this library and thumbnails take to much time to load it seems as though it is actually loading the entire image to then display the small thumbnail. Is this true?
Also isnt there some kind of caching that can be

htb child classes don''t borrow form "parent''s parent class" :(
Dear list,
I have the problem that child classes don''t seem to issue the parent
class to borrow from their parent.
This is a simplified version of my script:
tc qdisc del dev $DEV root
tc qdisc add dev $DEV root handle 1: htb default 10
tc class add dev $DEV parent 1: classid 1:1 htb rate 10mbit
tc class add dev $DEV parent 1:1 classid 1:10 htb rate 1kbit ceil

tc strange behaviour
hi all,
I''m trying to do the following:
tc qdisc add dev eth0 root handle 1: htb default 15
tc class add dev eth0 parent 1:0 classid 1:1 htb rate 1mbit
tc class add dev eth0 parent 1:1 classid 1:15 htb rate 512kbit ceil 1mbit
what I expect:
limit outgoing traffic to 1mbit, start rate is 512kbit and let it grow
up to 1mbit
(correct me if i''m wrong here)
so, here is the problem

What is the reccomended minimum rate for leaf htb class for accurate operation?
Hi,
I''m trying to setup QoS in my TSL box. Following to mailing list reccomendations I changed PSCHED_CPU but can''t get accurate shaping with HTB. I have disabled HYSTERESIS also (by setting it to 0).
I have Intel Celeron 1.8Mhz (TSC supported I think).

iproute question
Hello all,
My company is sharing it''s internet access with a neighbor and the neighbor
in question was eating our bandwidth (both in upload and download) most of
the time. I finally set up a linux router to limit the incoming/outgoing
bandwidth to his network by adding a tbf on eth0 interface and eth1 interface
of the router (neighbor is behind eth1 and we are in-between him and the

Hi there!
Well, as an exercise, I try ''simulating'' an adsl link (just the speed ;o))
with a GRE tunnel and HTB for bandwidth limiting. Typically in germany
adsl has about 1024kbit downstream and 128kbits upstream (yes, there are
others ;) but these are what I have) - which are the values i try to simulate.
Here is the snipped that

HTB: Problem with excess bandwidth distribution
Hello,
I have a serious problem with HTB which I wasn''t able to solve myself.
I run a masquerading router with ppp0 as interface to the Internet.
Three clients need to share a downstream of 1 MBit, which I want
to divide with tc.
When I see a packet being forwarded to one of these clients, I give
it the appropriate unique mark:
iptables -t mangle -A FORWARD -d 192.168.34.141 -j MARK

tc strange behaviour (some discoveries)
hi All,
seems like a kernel problem
when I do the following on kernel 2.6.12.5
tc qdisc add dev lo root handle 1: htb default 1
tc class add dev lo parent 1: classid 1:1 htb rate 512kbit ceil 1mbit
all works as expected (traffic is limited to 1mbit), but this doesn''t
work the same
way on kernel 2.6.14.3, and actually only ceil has effect (in my

HTB traffic shaping odd effects
Hi,
I''m trying to perform some (what I consider) basic traffic shaping on
our network utilising HTB. I have mostly reused the example on the
lartc.org site:
tc qdisc add dev eth0 root handle 1: htb default 10
tc class add dev eth0 parent 1: classid 1:1 htb rate 100mbit burst 24k
tc class add dev eth0 parent 1:1 classid 1:10 htb rate 50mbit ceil
80mbit burst 19k
tc class add dev eth0
