Dependency problem with libgaim.so.0 when installing GNOME

possible bug 5.1 - possibly more of a package issue
Hi there, not really sure if this is a bug, but more so rather a missing file... I installed a fresh 5.1 copy very minimal - no desktop, etc. Now it came up later that I would need a desktop on this install. So I was going to just groupinstall in the Gnome Desktop. # yum groupinstall "GNOME Desktop Environment" Now while processing the dependencies, it fails out with a dependency for

Is 4GB memory the 64bit switch tipping point?
I am curious what should be the benchmark for making the choice of switching from 32bit to 64bit Linux? I have a few assumptions below. Is my logic sound? (This is a follow up to the "Adding RAM" thread) Assumptions: 1. 4GB Memory. The main benefit of 64bit mode is the ability to address more than 4GB of RAM. I assume that you use 64bit mode if you want to *efficiently* have

following a packet from sendto() to wire (and reverse)
I am quite unfamiliar with DTrace (and even more with Solaris/Linux/other) kernel internals. I recently had to help look into an issue where an application apparently sent a UDP packet, but it did not appear on the wire, nor did snoop(1)ing the interface show it, so the assumption is that it was lost (or misdirected) somewhere in the IP stack. We did use Dtrace with syscall::sendto:entry/exit to

How do I configure shorewall to work with VoIP SIP?
Hello, Let me first start by saying Shorewall is awesome, and I use it everywhere from single box firewall, to home network firewall, even to our corporate firewall. I am experiencing a problem getting my home firewall to work with my BroadVoice VoIP connection. I use the Sipura SPA-2100 ATA (Analog Telephone Adapter) that came with my BroadVoice account. This happened when I tried to replace

rebuilding kernel modules issues
I have a Tyan S3870 (K855A) motherboard which I would like to perform a burn in test with. lm_sensors needs a kernel module compiled to be support this motherboard's sensors. The instructions, for compiling the module, by tyan (ftp://ftp.tyan.com/software/lms/3870.sensors.conf) match closely with the instructions I found here (http://www.howtoforge.com/kernel_compilation_centos). Performance Problems while reading
Hi all We are using a 2 node cluster with drbd 8 (primary/primary state) and ocfs2. Reading a file on one node while it will be written on the other node is very slow. Reading a file on node while it will be written on the same node is fast. In the first case the node which wants to read the file has to ask the other to downgrade the locklevel. In my opinion this is a bottleneck, if the files are

pm-utils - ATrpms updates a system package on the stable branch
I performed a clean minimal CentOS 5.2 install, fully updated the system, and then added the ATrpms repository. When I perform an update after adding the ATrpms repository, the package pm-utils is updated the the ATrpms repository. My understanding is there should not have been any updates as the stable version does not update system packages, right? "The CentOS 5/RHEL 5 repository

Anaconda hangs using 100% CPU
Dear all, I have been struggling with my first PXEboot today, using a kickstart with packages served over http on the local network. sendto syscall: EPERM (Operation not permitted)
A bizarre problem on this host running Asterisk. I don't actually think this is Asterisk's problem, but I don't know who to ask, so if this is OT, please redirect me. CentOS 5.2 64-bit Xen domU running Asterisk 1.4.22 32-bit with a number of SIP phones and a few SIP<->PSTN gateways. [PATCH] efi: reuse UDP port with sendto
Without an assigned source port, Transmit function assign a random new source port to the packet being sent. It thus have to be set before calling Transmit if the source port have already been decided. Conversly, we have to save the assigned port to reuse it later if needed. Resolve bug #35.
