please test: Secure ports tree updating
CVSup is slow, insecure, and a memory hog. However, until now it's been the only option for keeping an up-to-date ports tree, and (thanks to all of the recent work on vuxml and portaudit) it has become quite obvious that keeping an up-to-date ports tree is very important. To provide a secure, lightweight, and fast alternative to CVSup, I've written portsnap. As the name suggests, this

Fundraising for FreeBSD security development
Dear FreeBSD users, Slightly more than three years ago, I released FreeBSD Update, my first major contribution to FreeBSD. Since then, I have become a FreeBSD committer, joined the FreeBSD Security Team, released Portsnap, and become the FreeBSD Security Officer. However, as I have gone from being a graduate student at Oxford University -- busy writing my thesis -- to a researcher at Simon

curl and CVE-2013-2174
Dear members, It may sound a silly question. I have curl installed: # pkg_info |grep curl curl-7.24.0_3 Non-interactive tool to get files from FTP, GOPHER, HTTP(S) Today portsnap updated the ftp/curl port, and patch-CVE-2013-2174 appeared in files/, but the port version remained such that portaudit, and portupgrade still complain about curl's version. What is the recommended way to

How go back from X.Y-RELEASE-pZ to X.Y-RELEASE?
We are currently using cvs for both source and ports. I have begun changing to portsnap for ports, and I would also like to try changing at least some of our servers to freebsd-update. But all servers have been patched, using either RELENG_8_3 or RELENG_9_0 as cvs tag. I need to revert them to their respective RELEASE to be able to use freebsd-update. Complete reinstall from eg CD is not an

building a many-to-many structure in javascript
hi, for some purpose, I need a "in-javascript database", maybe built with some Prototype $H function calls for creating "tables" but what about junction tables, I mean those which express many-to- many relations between two entity tables ? I though using concatenation of strings with a separator, for example "key1 key2" "1234-56" or "ABC \n 789"

portsnap not updating
Hello, Probably the wrong mailinglist. But portsnap is not updating since a few days while there are commits on the ports tree. [1] After some searching I found I am not the only one. Apparently there is maintenance being done on the servers. http://www.mail-archive.com/freebsd-ports at freebsd.org/msg45395.html I read a lot of blogs/RSS/etc. Nowhere any signs of maintenance on the

packages (binary) update best practice
Hi all, I have update recently to freebsd 9.1 via freebsd-update and I was quite happy with the process and the instructions on freebsd-handbook, I think well documented. But I would like to understand what is the best practice to update the ports too as I used the package tools (pkg_add -r) to add few package to the base install. Keeping in mind my server have disk space constrain (small disk

How to update ports tree indexes when using svn
Hi list, after the security announcement (http://www.freebsd.org/news/2012-compromise.html) I use svn to update my local ports tree. I've found out that the port index is not updated. What is the preferred/recommended way to update port indexes when using svn? Thanks, Serguey.

Room for safe opaque blocks in flac streams? Looking to add error correction to flac.
Is there an obvious safe way to add some extra data to a flac file that spec decoders will happily ignore? I'd like to explore creating a tool which will add N extra redundancy frames at the end which will allow perfect decoding with up to ~N frames lost in the files. This would allow users to sacrifice a tiny amount of compression for a substantial increase in file robustness. This would

Setting up a cups printer
I'm trying to set up a cups printer but I don't know much about printing in linux and am a bit confused. I've installed a printer in cups using the web interface and it works fine. All the tutorials I've read though refer to /var/spool/lpd/lp but on my system this doesn't exist. I'm guessing this is because I'm not using lpd, I'm using cups. There are a few

newbie uk questions...
hi: Just starting out with *, and I'm planning to heed the advice to start simple and small, but the goal i'm aiming for eventually is: *-based pbx for 10-20 seat small business, based in the UK. Users will have PoE SIP hardphones. So far so good, but two questions, both UK-specific, relating to connection to the outside world (PSTN or VoIP): - are there any UK-based VoIP providers

kernel panic caused by zfs/sa.c
Hello, I'm experiencing a kernel panic that appears to be caused by zfs. No errors are making it into /var/log/messages, but here is the error message that appears on my screen after panic (transcribed): panic solaris assert BSWAP_32(sa_hdr_phys->sa_magic) == SA_MAGIC, file: /src/sys/modules/zfs/../../cddl/contrib/opensolaris/uts/common/fs/zfs/sa.c, line 1262 I can reproduce this by

[Gluster-devel] Integration of GPU with glusterfs
It is disappointing to see the limitation being put by Nvidia on low cost GPU usage on data centers. https://www.theregister.co.uk/2018/01/03/nvidia_server_gpus/ We thought of providing an option in glusterfs by which we can control if we want to use GPU or not. So, the concern of gluster eating out GPU's which could be used by others can be addressed. --- Ashish ----- Original

Announcing Glusterfs release 3.12.4 (Long Term Maintenance)
Hey Niels, Installed 3.12.4 from centos-gluster312-test on my dev ovirt hyper converged cluster. Everything looks good and is working as expected for storage, migration, & healing.
