rebuilding kernel modules issues
I have a Tyan S3870 (K855A) motherboard which I would like to perform a
burn in test with. lm_sensors needs a kernel module compiled to be
support this motherboard's sensors.
The instructions, for compiling the module, by tyan
(ftp://ftp.tyan.com/software/lms/3870.sensors.conf) match closely with
the instructions I found here
(http://www.howtoforge.com/kernel_compilation_centos).

Is 4GB memory the 64bit switch tipping point?
I am curious what should be the benchmark for making the choice of
switching from 32bit to 64bit Linux? I have a few assumptions below.
Is my logic sound? (This is a follow up to the "Adding RAM" thread)
Assumptions:
1. 4GB Memory. The main benefit of 64bit mode is the ability to
address more than 4GB of RAM. I assume that you use 64bit mode if you
want to *efficiently* have

OpenSSH Questions
Heya,
I'm trying to convince my company to use OpenSSH instead of the commercial SSH version. I need a little help:
1. What features does OpenSSH offer over commercial SSH (besides being free and open source of course)?
2. Our lawyers want details on the licensing / patents stuff. I have the high level details from the OpenSSH page. I need the nitty gritty like RSA patent# and

How do I configure shorewall to work with VoIP SIP?
Hello,
Let me first start by saying Shorewall is awesome, and I use it
everywhere from single box firewall, to home network firewall, even to
our corporate firewall.
I am experiencing a problem getting my home firewall to work with my
BroadVoice VoIP connection. I use the Sipura SPA-2100 ATA (Analog
Telephone Adapter) that came with my BroadVoice account. This happened
when I tried to replace

Problems with sample variance
Dear R users,
I am a beginner to R. I generated 1000 samples with 15 data in each sample
I tried finding the variance for each sample
I used the code:
m=1000;n=15
> r<-rnorm(15000)
> for(i in 1:m){
x=data[,i]
v=var(x)}
what I got was just the variance for the last sample i.e. the 1000th sample
but what I want is 1000 variance.
Does anyone know what I did wrong?
Thanks

Patches for openssh port forwarding
Hi !
I hacked together a couple of patches for Openssh 2.1.1p4 port forwarding.
It is a one patch file that does the following two things:
First:
If the server is configured not to allow port forwardings it sends
SSH_SMSG_FAILURE (protocol 1) while openssh client expects SSH_SMSG_SUCCESS.
When the client gets the failure it exists with protocol error message.
This patch will accept both failure

abline() with xyplot()
Hello all,
I'm a new user on R, and I used the abline function to draw a line on my graph but it doesn't work with xyplot(). With the plot function, abline() is ok but with plot it doesn't make what I want. Maybe it's a little thing to change in plot() but I don't find what!
With xyplot I write this :
Xyplot(m~ordered(l,levels=1),

GRUB Timeout problem
I recently installed CentOS 5.1 on a DL71 ASI notebook.
After my yum update the timeout parameter in /boot/grub/grub.conf file
has no effect. It sits at the grub screen forever unless I press the
enter key to select a kernel, at which point it will boot.
Any help or suggestions to fix this would be much appreciated
