Installing a RPM with yum
Hi all, this is my first post...
Here the situation, I've installed php 4 with yum, using the default
CentOS repositories, but now I realize that I need the Informix
extensions and others like unixodbc, gd etc. This last two packages
where in the repository so I search with yum and I found them, and
install them, but not the Informix one.
So here my question, when I install a RPM package,

Is every CentOS release supported for 7 years?
Hi,
I've read some posts in the forums which seems to indicate that not
every CentOS version is well supported. Is it possible to install
CentOS 5.5 on a server and only apply security updates for 7 years? Or
is the preferred way to upgrade to each minor version? Thanks in
advance!

the wandering MAC?
Hi all,
I have what appears to be a truly puzzling problem. I've got this P4
32-bit machine running CentOS 5.5 with XEN that has two NICs: one
onboard, an Intel Corporation 82540EM Gigabit and one on an expansion
card, Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL-8169 Gigabit. The second one
is recognized as eth1.
What's happening is, it is showing up under one of the two MAC's:

Centos7/Kde4 freeze
Hi
I have a fresh install of centos 7.4 with KDE on a laptop (latitude 5590)

It works quite well, I have 2 screens side by side (default config), but....
If I add a second menu bar for the screen connected to the dockstation (KDE
allow for this) it is not possible anymore to start a kde session if the laptop

E-Business 11i.9 and RAC 9.2.0.3
Hi,
I am currently involved in a project with E-Business 11i.9.
For the production enviroment, ct. wants to implement Load Balance and
Fail Over - both middle tier and database tier, the last with RAC.
As E11i creates lots of tablespaces, the best way seems to be OCFS.
We installed & configured OCFS partitions.
The next step was to install E11i multi tier, single instance - already

Centos 5.0 Intel G33/P35 Chipset Support (Asus P5K-VM, P5KC)
I have 2 new boxes that I cannot use yet because of
problems supporting these newer chipsets in 5.1. Does
anyone know when the CD version of 5.0 x86-64 that has
support for these chipsets be available on any on a
Centos mirror?
Has the support for these chipsets been added to yum
yet?
Here are my latest results with these chipsets and

divide centos-announce
I was thinking the last few days, wouldn't it be better to divide the
centos-announce list by the archs, so that if I'm interested in the i386
arch, I only get those, and not the ia64, or the s390.
Just a thought.

Disabling specific port-forwarding
Hi all,
I have a server where I allow some people to do SSH port forwarding for SVN,
GIT, since I need to do that to access these services in certain locations.
I can't access SVN ports in some work locations.
Thing is, I also give specific access to some user accounts, mainly git and
svn user, to some people I don't fully trust to have access to my VNC
server, which is without password

Automated RPMForge Repository Installation Script for Tips & Tricks section
Hello.
With the help of the community I finished polishing the translation of
my PHP script to Bash version

It has now autodetection of architecture and CentOS version and handles errors.

After Debian testing upgrade, dovecot doesn't work
Today I upgraded my Debian testing server (just personal testing server),
and one of the updates was dovecot-common and dovecote-imapd. I passed
through the dovecot.conf file changing things so that I would have similar
features as before, and everything looked OK.
Now, after restarting, and all, I try to connect the the imap server with
my user acount, and it passes OK, but when I try to see

[Bug 5124] Parallelize the rsync run using multiple threads and/or connections
https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5124
--- Comment #12 from Paulo Marques <paulo.marques at bitfile.pt> ---
Using multiple connections also helps when you have LACP network links, which
are relatively common in data center setups to have both redundancy and
increased bandwidth.
If you have two 1Gbps links aggregated, you can only use 1Gbps using rsync, but
you could use 2Gbps if
