Brightness readings for part of an image
Hi R users,
I am doing some image analysis and I'd like to know if anyone knows of:
1. a way to specify a rectangle (using xy coordinates) within an image to
have R evaluate using xy pixel coordinates and
2. a way to get brightness readings for that part of the image.
If there's some way to crop the image using 2x2 xy coordinates, for instance
in the EBImage package, that would work

[Bug 106305] Can't change screen brightness on MSI GT73VR with nouveau driver
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=106305
--- Comment #6 from Geroge T <reportbug at mailna.biz> ---
On KDE Plasma, at least I can use the operating system as normal, but with
gnome 3 it's a nightmare, the mouse and user interface is so sluggish that it's
impractical to use.

Wine almost immediately crashes X
Okay, so I've done the requisite searching around, and I'm either missing something unbelievably simple, or something funny is going on here.
I'm attempting to run a couple of simple games under Wine 0.9.57 in Gutsy on my new System76 laptop. When I attempt to run either of them, the loading graphic comes up, but the moment they attempt to change to fullscreen, X crashes. No warnings,

Error in grid.text after tcltk package loaded
Hello -
I am noticing some strange errors when using the grid package, but
(apparently) only after loading the tcltk package. The interaction here
does not make sense to me, and I'm wondering if anyone else can
reproduce this, or if it is specific to my setup. Here is my sessionInfo:

More information on R segfaults, tcltk package, and graphics devices
Dear R-devel -
I have investigated the report I made at
https://stat.ethz.ch/pipermail/r-devel/2008-May/049683.html some more,
and believe I have enough information to warrant an update. My
sessionInfo() immediately after starting R is at the bottom of this message.
I decided to first concentrate on finding out why I sometimes receive a
segfault while closing a graphics window while the
