Automounter (?) failing in CentOS 5.3
I may have asked about this before, but I can't find any records of so doing in my saved mail (which includes almost everything I ever read or write): All of a sudden, I am not getting flash drives automatically mounted in CentOS 5.3 with GNOME - they are recognized by the hardware, but there seems to be a (new?) problem with the maps. Here's the tail end of dmesg: usb 1-10: new high

Alarming (?) smartd reports
I decided, after the last discussion of smartd and S.M.A.R.T. disks, to take a look in my /var/log/messages, and I'm seeing fair bit of this: Sep 10 20:11:23 mhrichter smartd[3361]: Device: /dev/sda, 4294967295 Offline uncorrectable sectors Sep 10 20:41:23 mhrichter smartd[3361]: Device: /dev/hdb, 21 Currently unreadable (pending) sectors Sep 10 20:41:24 mhrichter smartd[3361]: Device:

Ghostscript in 5.3
Ever since I updated to 5.3, I have been unable to convert any ps files to pdfs using the ps2pdf command. I usually get errors like this: [mhr at mhrichter forms]$ ps2pdf doe81008 ERROR: /undefinedfilename in (doe81008) Operand stack: Execution stack: %interp_exit .runexec2 --nostringval-- --nostringval-- --nostringval-- 2 %stopped_push --nostringval-- --nostringval--

Oddity with kernel built under CentOS 5.0
Yesterday I found a need to have the NTFS module support in my CentOS 5.0 at home, so I happily installed the 8.1.4 source, prepped it (after deleting the rhel and olpc lines per Johnny's notice earlier in this list), made the config with a ".nx" version name using make menuconfig (copying the config from the SOURCES directory, editing it to include the # x86_64 line and copying it

Errors in display settings
This is what nvidia-settings gave me on the terminal window before it brought up its own (useless) window - anyone know what this means (or is it all related back to the other thread I posted on screensaver problems)? Slightly OT - unable to install hplip 2.7 on CentOS 5 64
I have already reported this as a bug to the HP folks, but I was hoping someone here might have a clue about this one. Just bought an HP Deskjet F2120 and tried to install it on my CentOS 5.064-bit system. The printer installed fine, but sane does not recognize the device, so I tried to install hplip 2.7.10, which is supposed to support it. Installation failed twice - first time because I did

Video on (video-capable digital) still camera not accessible
I'm looking for any intelligent commentary on this - it may be a little off topic, but I'm wondering if anyone knows about this. This isn't short, so bear with me. Yesterday, I tried to download a video off of one of my digital still cameras that also takes videos (Canon Powershot SX10 iS) on my CentOS x86_64 5.3 system. When I plugged the camera into a USB port and turned it on, it

Things that fail over time (was Automounter (?) failing in CentOS 5.3)
I'm starting a new thread on this because there are other failures I'd like to bring up, not _necessarily_ directly related to CentOS, but they all happen to me here. FTR: Linux mhrichter 2.6.18-128.1.10.el5 #1 SMP Thu May 7 10:35:59 EDT 2009 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux (AMD 64x2 7750, 2.7GHz, 2GB memory, 900+GB disk, etc.) I had a meeting to go to last night, so before I left, I

I now have it so that it prints a few pages, then locks up the printer. Funny, it worked just fine under CentOS5, now under CentOS 6, it won't? That's weird. Do you, or anyone else, have any

IPv6 link-local address support with Samba4
Hello Samba Community, I've couple of questions regarding IPv6 link-local address support with Samba4. Is Samba4 suppose to listen on IPv6 link-local address? With following lines in smb.conf, smbd listens on IPv4 and IPv6 global address but not on IPv6 link-local address assigned on eth0. bind interfaces only = yes interfaces = lo eth0 On the same Linux box, Samba-3.5 used

Canon Printer Woe
Hi, Has anyone had any success using a Canon LBP5300 with CentOS or any other RH type os for that matter, using the rpms and intructions downloaded from the Canon website? I have it working on XP and OS X both via USB and network but am having no success with either on CentOS 5.4 . Print jobs seem to be processed correctly by CUPS but the printer doesn't respond at all and the jobs show

What to use on CentOS 6.2 w/ an Epson Stylus Photo 2200
Epson doesn't seem to have one; I see an rpm at openprinting.org, but that .rpm d/l I started around 11:30 my time, and the d/l slowed, and slowed, and it's been at 21% and "1 hr 17 min to go" for it seems like close to half an hour. I d/l a tar.bz2, but I'm not sure I want to build and install it - my use of this printer is temporary, and I want to be able to uninstall it
