new feature MaxIdleTime
Hello, in the company I work for we have an ISDN-router is dialing automatic to a special machine if a special IP-address is called by a client-PC inside the company. So we maintain the machines of our customers. But there is one problem: We cannot say to this router "hang up - I'm ready". So he has a configured idle timeout after this time he hang up by himself.

Why isn't it possible to lower TCP values of running SSH session?
I am running OpenSSH_6.7p1 on Slackware 14.1 x64. I haven't modified a stock config. On Linux TCP timeouts are controlled by these 3 files: $ cat /proc/sys/net/ipv4/tcp_keepalive_time \ > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/tcp_keepalive_intvl \ > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/tcp_keepalive_probes 7200 75 9 These are their default values. I modified them to 3, 1, 1 respecitively before establishing a new SSH

[RFC][PATCH] Kemari v1.0 released
Hi, I would like to announce the first release of Kemari, an open-source virtual machine synchronization mechanism for fault tolerance. It offers a feasible approach to fault tolerance that does not require the use of specific hardware or modification of applications/OS. Kemari aims to keep VMs transparently running in times of hardware failures. It transfers the state of the primary VM to the

IPTABLES --hitcount maximum value
Is the maximum permitted value for --hitcount documented anywhere? I reliably get a iptables-restore error when I specify a hitcount value greater than 20 but I cannot find any mention of there being a maximum value. -- *** E-Mail is NOT a SECURE channel *** James B. Problems with IPTABLES recent module.
I went to reload (iptables-restore) my iptables configuration and obtained an error at the COMMIT statement. No further details were provided even when I ran restore with the -v option. I determined that none of my backed up configuration files going back to October will load either. This is more than passing strange because I altered and uploaded the iptables configuration on this host several

NFS exporting a GFS mount point
Hello, I have a storage offering some 11 TB of space. I'd happily use ext3 and NFS export to 4 client machines, but 8 TB seems to be the tested maximum. I'd really like one mount point for the whole 11 TB. Since GFS offers lock_nolock option for local mounting, I'm assuming it's not so out of line to NFS export this GFS mount point. Thoughts and inputs appreciated. --Koji

Extract text from Microsoft PowerPoint files
Hello CentOS people, I'm wondering if there are command tools like antiword and docx2txt for Microsoft PowerPoint files (.ppt and .pptx). The idea is to extract text from PowerPoint files. Sorry this isn't exactly about CentOS, but I'd really like it if Yum has something. I tried xlhtml, but it hasn't been updated in a while and isn't exactly wanting to work on CentOS

The Camellia block cipher for OpenSSH 4.6p1.
Hi, I implemented a patch for porting the Camellia block cipher to one of the OpenSSH-usable cipher. Camellia is one of the approved encryption methods of NESSIE and has specified in several RFCs. I put the patch at: http://www.is.titech.ac.jp/~yanagis0/text/camellia/openssh-4.6p1-0.2.patch in http://www.is.titech.ac.jp/~yanagis0/text/camellia-e.html. I hope you will enjoy this patch and

Unattended install of CentOS in a VM with given login/password?
Is there a way to make CentOS install unattended, right from the boot until I can SSH into it?. I'd like being able to boot a new Virtualbox virtual machine right from the CentOS ISO, and then from the Virtualbox host, ssh into the brand new VM client and customize it using SSH shell scripts (SU, yum install, etc). Is there any way to tweak the ISO to specify "unattended install"

FW: Help for setting up windows unattended installation

My idea was to have the option to install windows 7 on my computer and it should install drivers that's not recognized in the install progress. My default file is this: DEFAULT menu.c32 PROMPT 0 MENU TITLE PXE Special Boot Menu MENU INCLUDE pxelinux.cfg/graphics.conf MENU AUTOBOOT

"ServerAliveInterval" and "ServerAliveCountMax" doesnt work in openssh50?
Hi OpenSSH team, We found that openssh5.0 has a bug with the "ServerAliveInterval" and "ServerAliveCountMax" options. This function doesnt work at all, which means when the Maxtime reached, the ssh will not kill the connection and prompt the infomation "Connection Timedout" as it used to do.
