Drupal installation
Does anyone have experience of drupal installation under CentoOS-5.3 with MySQL database preferably accessed through phpMyAdmin. I want to install drupal more or less as an experiment, and I'm looking for a 1- or 2-page document that just lists precisely what steps to take. I've had a quick look at the official installation instructions, and I found them confusing and contradictory. --

Passing R connection as argument to a shell command on Windows
Hello, is there a way to pass a connection to a file in a zipped archive as argument (instead of a file name of unzipped file) to shell command "cut". In general, is it possible to pipe output of a R function to a shell command? How? I want to do something like: z = unz("zipArchive.zip", "fileASCII.ASC") # open connection open(z) # cut lines of the ASCII file in

Windows Remote Assistance fails
I attempted to set up unsolicited remote assistance via group policy, but connections to the client machines fail. A network trace show the 'expert' machine doing a TGS-REQ to the DC which responds with a KRB5KDC_ERR_POLICY. This seems to be the origin of the problem. I noticed in the request, the username of the 'novice' is given as the Server Name but is otherwise pretty

Novice question about getting data into R
I found it easy to use R when typing data manually into it. Now I need to read data from a file, and I get the following errors: > refdata = > read.table("K:\\MerchantData\\RiskModel\\refund_distribution.csv", header > = TRUE) Error in scan(file, what, nmax, sep, dec, quote, skip, nlines, na.strings, : line 1 did not have 42 elements > refdata = >

Dealing with brute force attacks
Over the weekend one of our servers at a remote location was hammered by an IP originating in mainland China. This attack was only noteworthy in that it attempted to connect to our pop3 service. We have long had an IP throttle on ssh connections to discourage this sort of thing. But I had not considered the possibility that other services were equally at risk. Researching this on the web does

Centos as Gateway ? (Router/transparent proxy)
Hi All, I'm lately suffering from Quota abuse at home. believe it or not my teenagers are eating through my allowed quota. Hence, i'm thinking of setting up a centos machine to work as such: HDSL modem(natted to an onboard dhcp service for lan users) -> Centos - > Switch - LAN users Hw specs: 3 GB ram 3.0 core 2 duo 2 X 1 TB HDD 2 X 1 Gb NIC Centos will contain the

Specifying interactions in rms package... error
I am encountering an error I do not know how to debug. The error arises when I try to add an interaction term involving two continuous variables (defined using rcs functions) to an existing (and working) model. The new model reads: model5 <- lrm( B_fainting ~ gender+ rcs(exactage, 7) + rcs(DW_nadler_bv, 7) + rcs(drawtimefrom8am, 7)+ DW_firsttime+ DW_race_eth +

Silly question about 5.1
I just rebooted my desktop system to pick up the 5.1 kernel, etc. One oddity I noticed is that the contents of /etc/redhat-release still says: [root at bend etc]# cat /etc/redhat-release CentOS release 5 (Final) but: [root at bend etc]# rpm -q --whatprovides /etc/redhat-release centos-release-5-1.0.el5.centos.1 On my CentOS 4 box, /etc/redhat-release says: [dave at fraud ~]# cat

close open relay
hi all, running centos 4.7 i686. I seem to have an o pen r elay sendmail server. How do I close it? I have the STRAIGHT centos install sendmail.mc file. Only thing I changed was: dnl DAEMON_OPTIONS(`Port=smtp,Addr=127.0.0.1, Name=MTA')dnl so as to allow incoming email and not just localhost. however this seems to relay everyone. I looked at http://www.sendmail.org/tips/relaying but it

Continued: Join domain OK, but domain not found after reboot
Hi, all: To recap: I can successfully get my WinXP box to join the domain (WHITEROCK), but after rebooting, when I try to log on: "The system cannot log you on now because the domain WHITEROCK is not available." I get this even when using the user 'root' - and this user was the one to successfully join the domain WHITEROCK!! To rule out any stale junk, my WinXP is a

ipv6 NAT; accept_ra errors and about network choice
Hello, Firstly THANK YOU for the IPv6 NAT support merged in 6.5. It has been almost impossible to get IPv6 into a VM on a laptop that switches between wifi and wired (dock) connections, because you can not add a wifi interface to a bridge. I know NAT is against the IPv6 end-to-end xen but it makes this "just work" for the vast majority of people like me who need to ssh/curl/talk to

"net rpc" commands don’t work on Samba AD DC
Hello, I built Samba 4.5.4 on a FreeBSD 11.0 machine, and I’m trying to set up an AD DC with a file share. So I did this: - enabled ACLs on my UFS2 filesystem (before compilation) - successfully provisioned (rfc2307, internal DNS) - tested local shares, DNS, Kerberos - adjusted NTPd as suggested in Wiki - added this to the global section of smb.conf: template shell = /usr/sbin/nologin template
