cpu load monitoring
Hi,
I have a server running Centos 5.2 and am implementing a GIS mapserver app. I
have some sample logs from another implementation that give me an idea of
bandwidth requirements but I would like to check the cpu load. I can not be
at the server during the test and am interested in knowing if there is
logging of cpu load available. Anyone have experience with this?
Recommendations?

anyone using an ATI card and fglrx with 5.2?
And does it work ok? any special use cases or installation issues? I'm
thinking of a 64 bit installation with an RV530 chipset.

Centos 5.2 yum check-update fails - repo change?
A couple of days ago I run yum update to take care of installing new updates
for evolution.i386, evolution-data-server.i386 and nscd.i386 . The update
went through with no fuss. Yesterday when I ran check-update I got the exact
same updates list. So I did not run yum update, thinking this was a sync
error or a repo issue.
Today (just a few minutes ago) I ran the update check again and got the

IvyGIS --- Rails Engine for custom maps.
Hi. I''m announcing a Rails Engine for presenting maps based on your
own data, either rendered by Mapserver, or pulled directly out of
geometric database tables stored by PostGIS. There''s a demo here:
http://ivygis.mgxkernel.com:3000/canada
which shows a tiled, draggable version of a Mapserver demo map, with
mouse-sensitive park polygons and railroads (SVG in Firefox 1.5+,

Connecting to dovecot
Hi All,
I've got a brand new dovecot installation. I'm new to dovecot, so please be gentle :-)
Anyway,
I'm getting some errors when I try to connect to dovecot. I've tried
searching the web and haven't been able to find a lot of information.
Here's the config info:
# dovecot --version
1.1.2
# dovecot -n
sudo dovecot -n
# 1.1.2: /usr/local/etc/dovecot.conf

Network and default route
I have had this problem on and off since RedHat 6, and I always worked through
it, but I thought I would ask.
When you have multiple network interfaces, how does the system determine the
default route?
Or is it the first, (or last) interface that comes up?
On the problem systems I have to add a "route add default..." statement in
some systems in the rc.local to get them to work right.

compilers a security risk?
I manage a web hosting server that we've recently upgraded, in part so
we could accommodate a domain that will enable community mapping. In a
recent exchange of mails one developer said:
"I could build the package directly on the server machine you have,
provided that the potential security risk posed by having compilers
installed is not an issue."

6TB SCSI RAID vs. Centos
I have an Infortrend RAID box I'd like to see as one big 6TB partition,
but I only can get 2.2TB partitions to work. I was trying to do this
with an Adaptec controller but apparently they are only (any of them) 48
bits wide. Does anybody have a working system for SCSI/Centos over
2.2TB?

Keyboard problems on Centos 5.4
I installed CentOS 5.4on a WMWare Server virtual machine that's
running on win7. Everything seems to work fine except I get a shit load
of error messages from the console along the lines of when I type on the
keyboard:

Just a question about the Announce List
Did the Announce go out for CentOS 5.6, or are people just jumping the gun?
If it went out, I missed it, and need to look at my spam filters.
If it hasn't gone out yet, then maybe I'm OK...
See... No "is it ready" crap in here!

Need help with an odd issue I am experiencing
I have a server with dual nic's running centos 5.2 1 nic connects to the
cable modem, which has 15m d and 2m up, but speed tests barely come back
at 5mb down including road runner's internal speed test. I hook up my
laptop to the same modem, same port, using the same cable and I get 17mb
down. I have ruled out iptables, nics (because same result on both
nics), cables, cable modem(with

SIze of reformatted USB drive
I just reformatted an 8Gb USB drive as ext3.
While as FAT32, it was reported as having well over 7Gb free (did not
note the exact capacity).
I reformatted with mkfs.ext3 /dev/sda1
Now it is reported (oh, this is with properties in Nautilus) as having
6.8Gb capacity (free space actually).
Does this makes sense that ext3 has less available space than fat32?

Calling a .bat to set environment variables and subsequent .exe execution from within R
Dear list,
I have found a thread dealing with similar problems with a Mac, but somehow
I cannot get it to work and the problem is slightly different:
I am using the shell() command to execute a program from within R. The
problem is that I need to execute SDKShell.bat file first that sets the
environment variables for the program ogr2ogr.exe:
