bit/bytes
Hi everybody, I have a theoretical question here. A 128K stream is a 128 KiloBITS (NOT kiloBYTES) per second stream; am I right? Is a 512k internet connection a 512 kiloBITS or 512 kiloBYTES connection? 128 KiloBITS = 16 KiloBYTES (8 bits = 1 byte). I am wondering if a 512k connection (upload and download) could THEORITICALLY handle 4 (512/128) or 32 (512/16) 128k streams? I am confused

Use 8GB RAM on Pentium D?
Hello: I have a Supermicro SuperServer 5015P-TR. It has a Pentium D and is running CentOS x86_64. Can this machine use 8GB RAM? I think it should because it is running a 64 bit OS, but I am concerned because it is fundamentally 32 bit hardware. Anyone have any experience in this area? Theora encode/decode performance is poor - with resolution 640X480
We build a Voip client with Iaxclient(Jiaxclient+Iaxclient2.1beta1+Theora1.0+libvidcap0.21),when we established video call with resolution 640X480(bitrate:500000,frameRate:11,fragsize:1472) in both sides, the CPU is consumed about 100%,the workload of Asterisk server is good at that moment. This issue does not exist with the resolution 320X240(bitrate:204800,frameRate:11,fragsize:1500), the

Sendmail forwarding external email sent to root
Hello: On a CentOS5 machine I set up for a client, in /etc/aliases, I set root's mail to forward to my email address so I can get notices from cron, etc. Unfortunately, I am now getting a lot of spam which is sent to root at theservername.com How can I tell sendmail to not accept external email to root? I searched the Internet and found some horribly convoluted solutions. There has to

Install CentOS directly from usb drive?
Hello: I followed the instructions here: http://www.centos.org/docs/5/html/5.2/Installation_Guide/ch02s04s01.html to put isolinux on a usb drive. When I boot from the usb drive, the installer comes up and I can do a network install. I have to say that is very impressive! But, since I have a 4GB usb drive, I am thinking I can load the rest of the installation onto the usb drive so I do not have

dumpe2fs and repquota not agreeing on block size
Hello: I am trying to set up user quotas on my /var partition to enforce limits on user's mailbox sizes. The machine is running CentOS 5. When I do this: /sbin/dumpe2fs /dev/md2 | grep 'Block size' Block size: 4096 That tells me the block size is 4k. But, if I do: repquota /var It is telling me that one of my users is currently using 10264 blocks. But, if I look at

how to know when files have finished ftping? -- antair restored
Here's a thought: what about doing an lsof? If a file is still being written by ftpd it should be open for writing. Nagios Monitoring with xentop
I am creating some custom nagios plugins and I am scraping data from xen using the nagios command: /usr/sbin/xentop -b -i 2 -d1 I am trying to get the network tx / rx data, however I think I am missing something here. NETTX(k) NETRX(k) So total network bandwidth is 1048576 k if the above header from xentop is true. So I am wondering why the output for each vm exceeds the theoretical max, Is

Best mobile SSH client?
I'm up for a cell phone contract renewal and am considering upgrading my handset. I looked at some devices at my local AT&T store but nothing really jumped out at me. I'm particularly interested in a cell phone that has a reliable ssh client, with ssh-agent and public key authentication abilities. Those of you who administer systems remotely, what mobile ssh client do you recommend?

About "b" meaning "byte" and bit
Hi all :) I think that this issue has already been discussed on this list, but google didn''t find anything interesting, so I''m bringing the subject again. The output of "tc" uses "b" meaning "byte" and "bit" for "bit". The "official" suffixes for those units are "B" and "b", respectively,

Good md5sum snapshot tool?
I have a server that is undergoing some patching soon and would like to make note of any files that have changed after the patching is complete. Can you recommend a tool that uses md5sum snapshots to do a quick before and after test, showing anything that's changed on a particular file system?

Hallo all, I currently hacking on cheese an got problem with variable framerate produced by webcams (2-30fps). There is no problem to encode it with theora, but problem to mux it in ogg. Or at least to play produced file. There is no problem tu mux it in to matroska. My question is: should actually ogg support timestamps, also variable framerate? If yes: it seems to be some where broken. Here

Good version control package?
We have a directory full of installation and configuration scripts that are updated on a fairly regular basis. I would like to implement some sort of version control for these files. I have used SVN and CVS in the past, but I thought I'd ask if anyone can recommend a simple, easy-to-use tool that would be better than cvs or subversion for this fairly simple setup.
