RGtk2 on linux: "stack smashing detected"
Yea I am aware of this. This is because the Ubuntu binary has stack smashing detection enabled. It's possible to build R without this checking: export CFLAGS="-fno-stack-protector" I have not been able to figure out why stack smashing is detected. I'm cc'ing this to r-devel in case anyone else has an idea. Michael On Wed, Aug 6, 2008 at 12:31 AM, Felix Andrews

problem with RGtk
Dear List, I would like to ask about package RGtk2 with which I have a problem. I will very much appreciate if somebody could tell me what I need to do. I need to install a package scdMicro and it depends on gWidgetsRGtk2. I am working on MAC, version 10.5.8. When I try to load gWidgetsRGtk2 (or RGtk2), it asks me: "Instal GTK+?" I installed Gtk+ from CRAN, and added a path: export

Installing from RPM on Red Hat 9
Hi Folks, Sorry to bring up this kind of issue (though any discussion may help some other people). I've just installed Red Hat 9 Linux (opting for GNOME) and now want to install R. I downloaded the RPM for Red Hat 9 from CRAN (as well as the patched readline). Attempting to install ( rpm -i R-1.7.1-1.i386.rpm ) I get, pretty quickly, the following: warning: R-1.7.1-1.i386.rpm: V3 DSA

acroread 8 on CentOS-4 (was for SL4)
I know acroread is not part of CentOS but many people use it. Thought forwarding this post on the SciLinux mailing list might help those who use acroread on CentOS-4. === excerpt === The "latest" version officially compatible with RHEL4 is acroread-7.0.9, but this currently has open security holes (CVE-2007-5663 et al). http://www.adobe.com/support/security/advisories/apsa08-01.html

flac-1.0.3_beta released
libxmms-flac-1.0.3 terminates xmms with a segmentation violation at quitting time. It happens only when quitting with no playing a flac file. For example, quit after playing only mp3 files, just quit after starting xmms. But it doesn't happen after playing flac files. I tried flac-1.0.2 plugin and a case of no flac plugin. This case was OK. I attach the stack trace when terminating with SEGV.

CentOS 5.2 - Nautilus - file types are not associated with an action and icons are not displayed
Hi all, I use CentOS 5.2 as a desktop and the Gnome Nautilus doesn't display icons related to the file types and all associated actions ("open with") are lost. It is so bad, that the desktop shortcuts are displayed as ordinary files "Filesystem.desktop" or "openoffice.org-1.9-calc.desktop", and when I click on them, the Nautilus wants to know what it should

flac-1.0.3_beta released
I have just released a source distribution which is the candidate for the 1.0.3 release. At this time I would ask anyone who is willing to help test it to do the following: 1. download the tarball and unzip it: http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/flac/flac-1.0.3_beta-src.tar.gz?download 2. do ./configure && make && make check This will build all code and run all the tests.

Wich web browser on CentOS6 ?
Yes David, I'm using a release 32 of Firefox to reach my olds C6100 IDRAC7 interface. The problem is for latest Firefox versions as they require libgtk-3 not available in Centos6/RHEL6 distribution. Today I use a very very bad solution to reach my switch with latest firmware version from the latest Firefox available in CentOS: I disable https and use http.... Even if it is on a private

Kernel panic, CentOS 7.1503 fully updated, with executing gkrellm.
Just a heads up, since I know gkrellm is in EPEL and not in the main CentOS repos. However, something fairly fundamental has changed, as prior to updating, gkrellm worked fine, but now every time I execute gkrellm the kernel panics. I'm going to triage on a different machine, as the panic corrupted at least one system library used by nautilus, but rpm -Va is your friend in these

Installing kernel RHEL-5.3 on CentOS 5.2 (x86_64)
Hi I tried to install the kernel Red Hat 5.3 x86_64 (2.6.18-128.el5.x86_64) with the command: rpm -Uvh kernel-2.6.18-128.el5.x86_64.rpm but there is problem with dependecy: ecryptfs-util < 44. How to solve problems with depencies when installing a beta kernel? I'm trying this kernel to see if I get CentOS working with the wireless iw4965. I tried the drivers from Intel, but the
