Changing passwords from Windows
Is it possible for a user to change his/her password from Windows? I tried it out last night as a test user against my PDC and it only changed for Samba; I was still able to log into the PDC via SSH using the previous password. (I changed it for the test user as root and it took for both SSH and Windows.) I tried to use smbldap-passwd as the test user, but I got a message back saying I had

Shutting down WinXP Pro instance
Recently I set up a PDC (Fedora 12 - I'm using this for a specific reason) using Samba 3.4.9 and OpenLDAP 2.4.19; I named my domain ATHOME. I am trying to figure out how to shut down WinXP Pro remotely and I'm not having any luck. Up to this point I have tried the following: - I used ATHOME\root which is the admin acct I used to join XP to my domain. I added ATHOME\root to my

Installing libpng
I've been trying to install perl-Tk and I learned v804.028 uses libpng > 1.2.20; CentOS 5.2 still uses 1.2.10. Is there an RPM out there I can use that's > 1.2.20? I'm just afraid of compiling from source code and breaking all the apps that depend on what's on the system right now. - Joe

Logon hours allowed
Could someone be kind enough to clue me in as to how to set "Logon hours allowed?" I've only found one instance of even referencing this topic: http://www.webservertalk.com/message413870.html And even this guy got no answers. This is my workstation output: ================================================== H:\>net user testuser0 /DOMAIN The request will be processed at a

LCD blanks out overnight
I inherited an ancient Dell Latitude C840 and recently installed CentOS 5.2 on it. It worked fine for the most part, but when I left it overnight and came back the next morning, the screen blacked out and wouldn't come back unless I did a hard reset. Even though I turned off all the power management settings and left it set like a desktop, the next morning after that it still blacked out. I

Two "pre-migration" questions
I have read the migration docs. They seem to relate to migrating from one imap product to dovecot on the same server. I'm interested in migrating my Maildir-formatted email from one server to another. 1. Can I tar my ~/mail directory on serverX.com, untar it on a different physical serverY.com (initially with a different domain name), and still see my mail when I access imap.serverY.com

RC1 problem? (Conversation over two IAX2 streams = nasty, gappy audio) (fwd)
Hi, With reference to Andrew Kohlsmith's problem with calls over IAX2 going dead after 1minute 5 seconds: This is caused by a bug in the "optimized bridging" code in chan_iax2.c interacting badly with the IAX2 jitter buffer. This problem only affect calls where: 1) There are 2 or more servers doing optimised bridging between the end-points of the call. ie a call like A-end

Samba3 Win95 interoperability
Greetings, I am trying to get samba3 to work well with W95. The windows 95 box can see the samba server, but cannot authenticate (claims wrong password) to get to any shares. I know the smbpasswd is good as I can authenticate and get to the shares using the same account and password on a W2000 machine. I suspect I am doing something wrong in the [global] section of the samba server. Would

OT: hardware, IBM 3650 M2 won't power on
Just for grins, pull off the cover and look at the electrolytic capacitors on the motherboard. Look for ones with the tops pushed up instead of being flat. This can cause all sorts of odd behavior. Often the machine with a blown capacitor will continue to run till it is powered off. Mostly I see this on Dell machines but have seen it on other machines as well. They are pretty easy to

cupsaddsmb encounter with good info supplied (Plain text)
Sorry, Should have used plain text to begin with and better wrapping: Hi People, Trying to be as informative as possible: I'm trying to add printers drivers to cups-owned, samba shared printer. Called "PDF-Creator" But when I issue the command "cupsaddsmb -U root -v PDF-Creator" I get a "NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE" Weird thing is: I was able to do this a few

Mail has quit working
Added back the IPV6 to /etc/hosts a couple days ago for grins and giggles. No longer getting IPV6 errors in logwatch for bind. Everything working. I think removing my ISP's nameservers from /etc/resolv.conf was the fix. They have been in there forever so still have my fingers crossed. Again, many thanks!!

chopped audio problem
I do use metadate since i need people to see the titles. I use livecast in mixer mode. The chopping starts right away I don't use VBR (I commented it out at least). The mp3's are made with XING audiocatalyst (for windows) so I don't really know. Sorry.
