CentOS 3.9
Hi,
Red Hat started releasing security advisories and update packages that are
part of RHEL3 U9. Still, on RHN there are no RHEL3 U9 ISO images released
yet.
As usual, CentOS will make available CentOS 3.9 when it is deemed ready.
So there is no need to ask when it is going to be released :)
Kind regards,

RHEL havoc tool
Hi,
I'm looking for a tool that breaks a working system (in one or more ways)
with the sole purpose to fix it again.
The aim would be to use this tool for several debugging techniques
sessions in our local LUG. When I was invited to speak at a local LUG I
was wondering what was the best way to demonstrate some of the tools (and
more importantly) the way to tackle a problem.
And nothing

Sarah: RHSA tracking tool
Hi,
I'm working on a RHSA tracking tool, named Sarah. It allows you to build a
local RHSA database of different RHEL releases and then allows you to
verify systems for compliance (and lists applicable RHSA and required
packages).
But before releasing my prototype, I would like to know what requirements
people have. How they would be using such a tool and what for reports they
need to

NTP and hardware clock
Hi,
I had the following problem today. Because of a misconfigured
network switch one system suddenly didn't have any network.
After a reboot (with the network still unavailable) NTPD refused to start.
Most likely because the initial ntpdate failed to work. I find this
troubling, because when the network was restored, NTPD could have resumed
working (like I'd expect from a true

Returned mail: see transcript for details (fwd)
Every post I do to this mailinglist is followed by a bounce message from
"centos.5.warren at recursor.net".
I have no clue why this is being send to me, afaics some IP address is
being blacklisted but I am not related to it.
Am I the only one who gets this and can we remove this person from the
mailinglist ?
Kind regards,

Getting asciidoc
I need to install asciidoc on my build machine. There is a version
for CentOS-5 available at dags rpm site. I have a repository
configured for dag like so:
[dag]
name=Dag Wieers RPM Repository for Red Hat Enterprise Linux
#Also see URL http://dag.wieers.com/home-made/apt/
baseurl=http://apt.sw.be/redhat/el$releasever/en/$basearch/dag

CentOS mailing list probe message (fwd)
With the latest message I send to the CentOS list I got this strange
'probe' message. The included bounce example has nothing to do with my
email-adres, but rather with someone subscribed to the list.
So it seems that somehow the mailinglist manager is sending bounces to the
wrong email-adres. Or I do not understand the 'probe' message (and the
included bounce message) at all.

Using up2date to download channels on rhn
Hi all,
i have a problem with centos's up2date tool. I have setup a central
update server with yam (http://dag.wieers.com/home-made/yam/) under
CentOS-4. When yam calls t up2date to download updates, up2date returns
this error:

rsync error: protocol incompatibility (code 2) at main.c(451)
Wayne, others,
Using the same version on server and client, I still got this error. This
was still based on last night's CVS (HEAD-20050314-1745GMT) and I am
certain both side's versions are identical. :)

Need httpd / apache RPM > 2.2.3 for 5.3
Hey folks,
It looks to me like the httpd on CentOS is stuck at 2.2.2 - what's up
with that? Even after a yum upgrade.
I need 2.2.10 or greater, and would prefer to get it via yum or at
very last an RPM if at all possible. But I cannot even find an RPM
out there. For some reason both EPEL and Dag Wieers do not even seem
to have an httpd RPM for RHEL5
Any idea where to look?
Why are we

CentOS Events on wiki menu
Hi,
Is it possible to rename the CentOS Events tab to simply Events ?
The other tabs do not include CentOS either.
For a published article today I required a desktop screenshot. However on
1024x768 with a non-fullscreen browser at wiki.centos.org, the number of
tabs required me to make the browser-width larger than I liked it to be.

Connecting CentOS to IPSEC VPN (Checkpoint FW1)
Hi,
Does anyone have experience using IPSEC on CentOS in order to connect to
vendor IPSEC-based VPN products (specifically Checkpoint FW1) ?
Is the included IPSEC implementation sufficient, or do people have to rely
on OpenSWAN or FreeSWAN ? I'd be testing tomorrow and I'm interested with
experiences others have had and things to look out for.
Thanks in advance,

Reorganising general CentOS FAQ
Hi guys,
I would like to reorganise the general CentOS FAQ. It now has 20 questions
about a lot of different things that can be structure much better. I would
like to add some questions, but lacking any structure...
I would like to make a distinction between the following subjects:
- General questions about the CentOS project
Answers about what the project is about, why the project

Mailinglist moderation
Hi,
I think the time (150 messages and counting) has come to ask someone of
the CentOS team to start moderating this list. I don't mind people
discussing whatever topic they like, but not at the expense of the
mailinglist and its members.
I don't think the topic really doesn't matter in these discussions, and if
done in private they would stand for long anyway.
I would propose

Dovecot using authsasld
Hi,
Trying to simplify the postfix/dovecot/saslauthd setup with less than 10
users, I was looking for some way to NOT duplicate the username/password
setup.
Currently I need to use a seperate file for dovecot as I do for saslauthd.
(One is a simple shadow-alike file, the other the sasldb)
I know that postfix 2.3 can use dovecot directly for sasl authentication,
and that would be a neat

Last character of the boot prompt gone missing ?
Hi,
I think I found a problem with syslinux where if you have an entry in the
syslinux config file (eg. linux) and you type some additional parameters
on the boot-prompt (eg. noacpi) the last character of the prompt is cut
off (and missing from /proc/cmdline).
This does not seem to happen for the append line in the config file, only
for additional parameters on the boot prompt. (I guess it
