browsing multiple workgroups on multiple subnets
Is it possible to browse multiple workgroups on two or more subnets?
I have set up samba on either end of a VPN and can browse successfully from
either end, but only in the workgroup that samba is configured for. Can
Samba be a member of more than one workgroup at the same time? Looking in
browse.dat I can see all the machines in samba's workgroup and also the
other workgroups, but not the

Cross-subnet, multiple workgroups
The samba configuration on the local LAN works great but, I am trying to set
up samba to permit browsing of two workgroups on different subnets and
getting very close but not quite the results I want. Remote shares can be
mapped to a local drive using "net use * \\remotehost\remoteshare" but in
windows explorer the remote workgroup is not browsable : there is a "computer

Multiple workgroups : Multiple Subnets
I am still trying to make samba work over a WAN with multiple workgroups
although I am just about to throw in the towel. I had hoped to find a solution
that would permit a Windows PC to browse a (MS) workgroup (ie retrieve the
browse list from the workgroup master browser for a remote (MS) workgroup when
that MB is NOT a samba server). Since WINS only provides the broadcast
address of the remote

centos 5.5 install + intel raid
Hi all,
Installing 5.5 on a fresh system having an Intel RAID.
My 2 drives are configured as a mirror within the Intel BIOS.
When starting my install, Anaconda throws an exception.
After a brief goog, I see one possible fix is - at the install prompt,
type;
linux text nodmraid
This is fine and all but Centos sees 2 disks at this point rather then
1 which is what I thought the Intel RAID

Samba and WINS
Current situation:
a) lots of Windows NT 4.0 workstation clients
b) quite a few Samba 1.9.18p10 servers running on Suns
c) 1 Samba server running as WINS server
d) NO Windows Servers
e) 1:1 correspondance between Netbios names and DNS names
f) DHCP currently tells the Windows machines the WINS server.
Problem:
If WINS server goes down, every Windows NT workstation can not mount anything

GRUB boot parameters: dom0_mem
I''ve installed Xen Hypervisor 3.0.3 (CentOS 5.7, i386) inside Virtualbox 4.1.16 (Mageia 1, i686) and have noticed that Dom0 is consuming 85% of the memory allocated to the VM (1GB) so I''d like to reduce this as much as possible in order to make more room for one or two VM''s.
Is there a minimum amount of vRAM that can/should be allocated to Dom0 (using the dom0_mem boot

bad keytable
Hello,
I try to install Centos 3 U4, to test if the bug is present as under
Gralinux AS 3 (an other clone of Redhat AS 3) and yes ... this bug is there.
When I try to install the Centos3U4, I choose French keyboard (azerty) ,
French language: no problem.
But after, when want to enter the root passord, or edit the name of a
partition with diskdruid the keyboard is still in US qwerty.

Update 4.2 broke LVM
I upgrade using YUM my CentOS 4 system the other night. I was
noticing that X wasn't coming up because of a gdk_thread issue
(actually, the window manager wasn't starting. I cold get X to start
from the command line).
Surprised that it took 587MB of downloads, since I was current as of
September 29th.
When rebooting, I was forced to the login prompt, because my LVM

Centos for entry level server : Motherboard?
I've been burned by Sata not working on an Asus motherboard (nVidia / nForce)
and need to select something that will work for a fairly light duty
web/mail/sql server. How do I go about finding out if a specific motherboard
will work with sata software raid and Centos 4.4 (or 5.x when it's settled
down).
Cheers;

no display what can I try.
I want to see things, I'm not sure how quiet would work.
Maybe next time I get the box I can re-put in the older working card
and try to do a firmware upgrade.
This does not seem distro specific. All versions of grub and syslinux
do not work in the default configs.
I will try using menu.c32 vs vesamenu.c32 as well. To see if it won't display.

LVM question
CentOS Community,
It is to my understanding that the /boot partition should never be
placed on LVM and should be a physical partition on the hard drives
(or on top of a RAID array). Is this an accurate statement?
Also please advise if the SWAP filesystem is safe to be placed under
LVM, or if this should be a hard partition / hard limit as well. I am
unsure if boot issues or any filesystem issues

Hi,
if you can provide a prepared src tarball like you do for releases, I can test.
But I still cannot build from git source (as you may remember).

Final Solution [was] Samba is a Hoax
Many thanks to all the Samba fans for your ideas and suggestions.
Eventually all the indicators pointed at a W95 client that was (somehow)
selectively working with everything except Samba. I took out my W95 repair
tools (fdisk & format) and after a new install (and setting the registry to
use plaintext passwords) everything worked fine. When I also re-installed
all the other M$ patches,
