Vectorise a for loop?
Hi R guru coders I wrote a bit of code to add a new column onto a "topTable" dataframe. That is a list of genes processed using the limma package. I used a for loop but I kept feeling there was a better way using a more vector oriented approach. I looked at several commands such as "apply", "by" etc but could not find a good way to do it. I have this feeling there

Below is the output you wanted me to look at, its a bit beyond me so I include both a brief grep summary and then the whole enchilada. error with R-patched (2008-05-02 r45591)
Just installed the latest R-patched and get the error seen at the end of the output below. Don't know what to make of this but thought I should report it. In general, when installing the latest version of R, should one use R-latest or R-patched? R-latest is stable, but one would assume that R-patched includes the latest bug fixes. cupsd takes 100% of cpu
I have never been able to get cups to work properly since CentOS 4.x (and am now on 5.2). When I try to "service start cups", cupsd immediately starts taking 100% of the cpu. Attaching strace to it shows no system calls happening. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling cups to get fresh config files. My printers.conf is empty. This is on a completely updated x86_64 CentOS 5.2

Changing hostname?
Hi, I recently made a CentOS install on a machine with an unsupported network card. I had to add the driver for it later, once I finished the install. For now I have this: [kikinovak at localhost ~]$ hostname --fqdn localhost.localdomain Q: how would I change this to something like calimero.local? Here's what I *would* do, but I prefer to ask before. 1) edit /etc/sysconfig/network and
