Dell 1950 Perc 6/i with centos 4.5
We are currently running CentOS 4.5 on older Dell Systems. We are upgrading
to Dell PowerEdge 1950 with a PERC 6/i raid controller.
CentOS 4.5 installation does not see the PERC 6/i controller. Dell and LSI
Logic only support RHEL 4U6 and higher and SuSe.
I've tried building the boot images with the new driver for installation but
kickstart still doesn't see the raid controller.

A Question on printer sharing
Hello all,
I am new to the Samba arena. I am using samba release 2.2.0-alpha3. I am
only using Samba for printer services on a Mandrake 7.2 Linux box.
I was able to create the printer share (PRINT$) and it answers to
\\printfarm but what I haven't been able to figure out is how do I install
the print drivers on the samba server so that when someone connects to the
share it installs the

smbldap: odd ownership of un-tarred files
I've just been setting up a new server with RHEL 3, samba 3 with LDAP
authentication and using the smbldap-tools ver. 0.8.4. I've finally got
things working, but just noticed something odd.
I have so far only created myself as a user, with uid=1000 and gid=513.
As root, I obtained the latest gzip file for squirrelmail and untar'd
it. The odd thing is that the directory created

Missing 4.7 kernel update SRPMs ?
I can't find the kernel-2.6.9-78.0.1.EL.src.rpm and
kernel-2.6.9-78.0.1.plus.c4.src.rpm on the download sites - the binary
i386/x86_64 RPMS are there, but not the matching SRPMs
Does anyone know where they are?
Thanks

Status of kernel divider option in 2.6.9-78.0.1
Under 4.6, we recompiled the kernel with HZ=100 for improved
time-keeping in VMware guests. I've read about the backporting of the
divider patch into RHEL/CentOS 4.7, but it sounds like it also comes
with some bugs. I have been unable to determine the current status of
the divider option in the latest 4.7 kernel update. I have
experimented with "divider=10" and it works with no major

2.2.30.2 fails to compile on centos 7
thx
my actual RPM failed at the same place .. the below was actually not the
result of an rpmbuild command .. cleared out the BUILD directory,
untar'd, configure and ran make manually - failed at the same spot as
the RPM package .. given 2.2.30.1 built ok saw no reason why 2.2.30.2
should suddenly stop ..

3.0.11 - configure can't see ldap.h
My server is running OpenBSD 3.6. I wish to join this machine to a
Windows 2003 AD domain so Windows clients can copy files to and from it
for FTP use.
I have untar'd the following files to /usr/src:
openldap-stable-20050125.tgz
samba-3.0.11.tar.gz
When running configure it stops with this error:
checking for LDAP support... yes
checking ldap.h usability... no
checking ldap.h

Sync of csgfs and current centos 4 updates
Hi list, I've been trying to update my csgfs stuff to 4.7 this week
but I notice that current csgfs is built against kernel-2.6.9-78.0.1
and is required as a dependence, right now current kernel is
2.6.9-78.0.5 it would be great if csgfs can be rebuilt or updated to
this, so dependences works ok???
Best regards

UID GID Problems.....
Hoping someone can help me fix something that I apparently messed up, i have
the issue that when I untar a file as root the uid and gid that get set are
not roots'. I had change a user uid and gid to 1000 via usermo -u etc....
but somehow it appears to have effected the root user. When I touch files
as root the correct uid and gid are root, however when untaring an archive
the directory and

Unstable VMware 1.0.5 host after 4.7 upgrade
After upgrading to 4.7 x86_64 on all our boxes (from 4.6), we have 3
VMware Server 1.0.5 hosts that are unstable. Sometimes they
spontaneously reboot, other times they freeze and require a hard
reset. Under 4.6, they were rock solid.
Failures tend to be associated with a guest start-up event, but are
often at random times as well. There is no useful evidence in either
the vmware or messages log

5.5 & gspca
Irritating quirkyness: we have a bunch of videocams. To use, we use gspca.
Usually, on an upgrade, I just go into the gspca directory (which appears,
from their website, to have not been updated since '07), make clean, make,
make install.
Having gone up to 5.5, did the same. What's happening now is that it
works, delivers the mpgs... but dumps errors in the logs:
