I see 5.3 ISO images on the mirrors
On one mirror that I tried, at least.
So, is it live yet? :-)

netinstall problem -- corrupt alsa-utils-1.1.0-10.el6.i686.rpm?
Hello.
I try to install from the netinstall iso file. Everything works as I
expect up to the screen where I have to choose between "Desktop",
"Minimal Desktop", "Minimal", etc.
If I choose either "Desktop" or "Minimal Desktop", I have a pop up
saying "Installation Starting" with "Starting installation process",

CentOS LiveCD on USB
I have been following these instructions:
https://www.centos.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=501
to put a bunch of utilities (Clonezilla, SystemRescue, CentOS netinstall/rescue, etc.)
on a single USB key. It works great for everything (including Ubuntu Live) except the
CentOS 6.4 LiveCD. (You can see my postings at the bottom of the forum.) When
booting the LiveCD, I got:

Is it okay?
Hi,
I have downloaded the following version:
CentOS-5.5-i386-LiveCD-Release2.iso
from the mirror:
http://ftp.iitm.ac.in/centos/5.5/isos/i386/
What I want to ask is that 'Release2' is the complete OS and after
installation we can use 'yum update'. So at first, is it enough (as I
am not going to download the complete set of 7 CDs)?

hello
Hello,
I am a Windows convert basically, but as a newbie, thinking of stability
and a virus free OS, and the features like that of a server, I have come
here.
Well said that I am absolutely new, I would know the things in the course
of time, since it is different from my daily job.......
Can one please let me know about the difference between the two DVD
torrents:

Anyone Having Any Luck Downloaing the DVD ISO?
I've been trying for 2 weeks to download the dvd iso torrent... Shows a ton
of seeders, few leechers, but very poor performance.. (I'm correctly setup
for torrents and get fast downloads normally) Only like 4% downloaded and
crawling. I've tried the trackers from every one of the mirror sites. I
can't use the net install because the systems I am installing are on a
closed network.

Installing 32-bit CentOS 6 on a new Lenovo System x3650 M5 server?
Is there any known incompatibility with the latest 32-bit (i386) CentOS 6 and the latest Lenovo x3650 M5 servers? I?ve been running i386 CentOS 6.X on 3 year old x3650 M4 servers without any issues. Our development environment has not been ported to 64-bit (x86_64) yet, so we are stuck using i386 for another few months. When I try to boot from the netinstall ISO image I just get a ?Boot Failed?

Installing CentOS-7 but keeping CentOS-6.5
I'm having trouble installing CentOS-7 on my HP MicroServer.
I've tried with KDE LiveCD and Netinstall (both on USB sticks),
and now I'm going to try with the DVD ISO.
But I want to be quite sure I can return to CentOS-6.5
if things go wrong, so I'm wondering what precisely I need to copy
(eg the MBR and a bit more) so that I could get back to things as they were.

Odd diagnostic plots in mixed-effects models
Dear R community,
In the excellent nlme package the default diagnostic plot graphs the innermost residuals against innermost fitted values. I recently fit a mixed-effects model in which there was a very clear positive linear trend in this plot.
I inferred that this trend occurred because my fixed effect was a two-level factor, and my random effect was a 12-level factor. The negative residuals

Looking for non-central F quantile
Greetings all,
I'm trying to figure out how to calculate the inverse CDF (i.e. a
quantile) for a non-central F distribution. I could put together a quick
numerical solver routine using the CDF, but I wonder if there's a function
that I've missed that would be more efficient?
Thank-you,
Andrew

List seems to drop empty levels of factors when containin g them
I don't get the same result, do you have a package loaded that would change
the default behavior (such as Hmisc)?

Oddity with names
Hi all,
I'm using R 1.5.1 on Windows 2000. The following snippet of code doesn't
seem to do anything - no error is reported, and there is no name change.
names(myFrame[,c(1:3)]) <- c("name1", "name2", "name3")
This code however works nicely:
names(myFrame)[c(1:3)] <- c("name1", "name2", "name3")
Can anyone suggest why

nls error control
I'm running a simulation that uses nls on each run. Sometimes, not
unexpectedly, nls doesn't return parameter estimates (e.g., "singular
gradient" error). Of course when this happens the simulation (in a loop)
stops and no results are recorded. What I would like is for the simulation
to simply record that nls couldn't obtain estimates on a particular run due
to whatever

CentOS-5.5 Live CD & netinstall
According to <http://wiki.centos.org/Manuals/ReleaseNotes/CentOSLiveCD5.5>
"There is a "Network Install" option on the Live CD
that is the same as our CentOS-5.5-i386-netinstall ISO".
I've looked quite carefully at my CentOS-5.5 Live CD (on a USB stick),
and I don't see a Network Install option anywhere.
Could some kind soul explain where it can be found,

Plotting second axes outside xyplot
Hi all,
I'm trying to find a way to get xyplot to produce a second set of axes outside the right hand side of the graph. This is my progress so far:
EE <- equal.count(ethanol$E, number=9, overlap=1/4)
xyplot(NOx ~ C | EE, data = ethanol,
prepanel = function(x, y) prepanel.loess(x, y, span = 1),
xlab = "Compression Ratio", ylab = "NOx (micrograms/J)",

[OT] linux on a PPC (mac mini)
Hello there,
complete off-topic, sorry about this, but my former idea was to install
a CentOS on an old mac mini (PPC!). Disappointed to see that PowerPC is
not a supported architecture and that non ARM or Intel architecture are
not managed by recent distros.. :-(.
Searching the web, I see very few possibilities to install a recent (I
need gnome2) GNU/Linux distro on such hardware. I gave Linux
