RAIDs and JBOD?
Hey Guys, I have some questions?regarding?a new home server I am going to build in the hopefully very near future (ASAP, I just need to finish planning everything and this is the penultimate?hurdle), I will be creating a software RAID... Lets say I have three drives "knocking" around which are all 1TB SATA II drives but each made by a different manufacturer. I am going to guess that

asterisk compatible, hot swappable PRI card
Hi We are in a project where we will use asterisk as a residential gateway for IP phone service. We are aiming to replace the primary phone line so the service must be up as long as possible so we are looking at ways to avoid shut downs. We are looking for a solution to allow us to add/remove PRI cards without shutting down the system Is there such a thing as an asterisk compatible

close open relay
hi all, running centos 4.7 i686. I seem to have an o pen r elay sendmail server. How do I close it? I have the STRAIGHT centos install sendmail.mc file. Only thing I changed was: dnl DAEMON_OPTIONS(`Port=smtp,Addr=127.0.0.1, Name=MTA')dnl so as to allow incoming email and not just localhost. however this seems to relay everyone. I looked at http://www.sendmail.org/tips/relaying but it

[PATCH supermin] init: Delete initramfs files before chrooting into the appliance.
After supermin has finished running, the initramfs files sit around occupying swappable memory but serving no further purpose. This saves a little memory, at the cost of about 1ms of extra boot time. --- init/init.c | 50 ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++-- 1 file changed, 48 insertions(+), 2 deletions(-) diff --git a/init/init.c b/init/init.c index 733d66e..5ac53e9 100644 ---

Live CD Planning systems
My company supplies me with a very nice HP nc2400. Much faster, more memory, etc than my old HP nc4010. Problem is the drive is not swappable, and they encrypt the drive (the OS is XP). The nc2400 has a DVD/CDRW and 2 USB 2.0 ports so I was thinking..... Make a Live DVD with everything I need but map /etc /root /home and /var/log (and what else?) to a USB flash drive (16Gb are available

who broke keyboards again?
I have a client that has several dell machines, when he boots without a keyboard he gets: atkbdc0: <Keyboard controller (i8042)> at port 0x60,0x64 on isa0 but no: atkbd0: <AT Keyboard> flags 0x1 irq 1 on atkbdc0 kbd0 at atkbd0 This used to work, then was broken by someone trying to "do the right thing". We need the keyboards to be hot swappable. I recommend that

[OT] External RAID storage / NAS
Hello List, I need storage for my home network - lots of storage. It's going to hold pictures, home movies, music, other bits of data, etc. I'm looking to start at about 500 GB, but I'd need to eventually grow that to 1 TB, or more. I also want something that is quiet, has hot swappable drives (not necessary, but a plus), is fairly easy to manage, and can be directly attached to

What's special about port 19842?
I've had umpteen IPs knocking on this door yesterday. The router blocked them, so it's not a problem, but why that port? CentOS/RHEL, PHP and zip archives
I'm trying to get bulk photo uploads working with a Drupal web site. The person who coded the Drupal photos module I'm using decided to use a zip archive as a means of batching together a collection of picture files for a bulk upload. Apache is reporting the following PHP error when the bulk upload feature is used: [Sun Nov 16 22:05:38 2008] [error] [client 192.168.0.192] PHP Fatal

Another security question
I would like to be able to check my bank account while we are on holiday. I know the bank's site is encrypted from the start - the login page is https and Verisign-trust encrypted - but is there any risk in using public wireless networks for jobs like this? It sounds secure enough, but maybe I'm paranoid.... Anne -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was

Where is gpg-agent?
The only obstacle now to running this box as the mail server is that I do read and send mail on it occasionally, while working on something. I need gpg-agent, but can't find how to get it. Is it merged into another package, or do I simply have to look at other repositories? Anne

Creating a Roaming imap account
This (CentOS5.1) box is my new imap server. Using system-config-security-level I opened port 143 tcp, and mail is readable throughout the LAN. I want a Roaming account on my laptop so that I can read mail while away from home. I have set up the account in kmail, and I know that that part is correct, as it worked on my old, less-secured, imap server. However, I haven't been able so far

Getting printer to work under 5.2
Hi I have a standard hplip install on my 5.2 box installed from the repos (it originally was installed from the 5.1 disks and followed any upgrade that may have occured in the transition to 5.2). My printer is a HP Deskjet F4180 connecting via USB. I can't get the printer to work. Documents manually printed from the file menu in OO.o 2.3 stagnate in a print queue, while the print icon
