Trouble running 'alsamixer' as normal user on headless box with minimal system
Hi, I just transformed an old Pentium III 500 into a headless jukebox. It's installed in the basement, near the stereo. There's only a base CentOS system on it (GNOME unchecked, package customization checked and then everything unchecked). From there on, I just installed the ALSA utils, and vorbis-tools. The machine is only supposed to do one thing (and to do it well, UNIX philosophy

Mic Plugged into sound card not working
Hey guys, I have a mic plugged into my sound card. It worked late last night but not today. When I try to select the mic using System/Preferences/Sound I'm provided with several options to choose from. On the Hardware tab I choose the Internal Audio device and set it to Analog Stereo Duplex. On the Input tab I choose Internal Audio Analog Stereo there are two Analog Microphone Inputs,

Hi, I managed to get my hand on a Xenyx x2222usb at a friend's, so I took the opportunity to do some testing with it. Pi model B, one of the more recent editions (I also had an older one from just after they were introduced and that one had trouble rebooting when attaching/detaching network so I ditched that one). where does linein writes to
I have tried broadcasting from both SuSE Linux and Slackware and with various programs being the last one Tim`s Mixice (which is a perl script that works along with a program called catdsp). Looking at the source I saw that this programs, both of them, try to open /dev/dsp. Now, my question is if /dev/dsp is the standard device for the line-in of the audio card? I have tried, as suggested in

Correctly setting up sound with Intel High Definition ICH7
Hi, Earlier this day I started a thread about Skype not working with outgoing sound. Now I wonder if it's not a problem with my soundcard. I had a vague suspicion about this, but since it's way off the original topic, I decided to start a new thread about this. Here's what the soundcard looks like: [root at grossebertha etc]# lspci | grep -i audio 00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel

I use Dragon NaturallySpeaking. The program's message says "The audio input device is not responding." and "The sound system does not support the requested waveform audio format." But alsamixer

chan_alsa and confbridge
OK, somebody may have a much better way of doing what I'm attempting. If so, I'm open to suggestions. I am trying to configure confbridge to create a "conference" room with an audio stream coming from my sound card. The idea is for a group of people to be able to call in and listen to someone giving a speech but not necessarily interact. I've got confbridge configured and
