Hi from Z?rich,Schweiz and a hot , humid day.
The SCANNER,Canoscan LiDE 600F,is not detected by XSANE/SIMPLE SCAN.
It is probably detected :- here is the OUTPUT from TERMINAL COMMAND "sane-find-scanner -v"

Problem detecting HP Tape Drive
Hello
I do have problem using Linux with an external HP tape drive. The
server platform is also an HP Server; the server is an HP ML350 G4,
and the Tape drive is a HP Storage Works Ultrium 448 - 1U
Rack-mountable.
HP Ultrium documentation says two drivers should be automatically
up, sym53c8xx for LSI SCSI interface "st" for tape and /proc/scsi/scsi
should contain information about

Quantum scalar i40 tape partitions
Hi All,
I have a Quantum scalar i40 tape library. I need to configure it to TWO tape partition libraries, e.g., library_a and library_b, so that each library has its own tape drive. Then connect this physical tape library to two different CentOS servers so that each server can see its own media changer and tape drive. I once had a successful configuration on one host but NOT on the other. One

Cannot boot after upgrading to Centos 5.1
My local centos mirror (ftp.crc.dk) failed to boot
after having upgraded from centos 5.0 to 5.1 (i386).
It just displays
GRUB
The cursor is positioned to the right of a space after
GRUB, and no input is accepted.
I've tried booting in rescue mode and run:
chroot /mnt/sysimage
grub-install /dev/cciss/c0d0
This completes without errors, but still it can't boot.
It's a HP/Compaq

cdrw firmware update
Hello,
I need to do a firmware update for my cdrw and because of a missing linux
program for doing that I thought of using wine for trying it.
I call the programm FlashTool.exe and no error messages occur. (The
surface really looks great!) The programm detects correctly the flashable
cdrw-drive even with ide-scsi and the non-flashable cdrom. But then when I
click on "continue" nothing

ZFS memory and swap usage
Greetings, all.
Does anyone have a good whitepaper or three on how ZFS uses memory and swap? I did some Googling, but found nothing that was useful.
The reason I ask is that we have a small issue with some of our DBA''s. We have a server with 16GB of memory, and they are looking at moving over databases to it from a smaller system. The catch is that they are moving to 10g. Oracle

random crashes
I have a server thats been running fine for a year or two lock up a few
times recently, requiring power cycling.
The /var/log/messages after a lockup last night is appended to this message.
hardware is a pretty typical server, Supermicro X8DTE-F motherboard,
dual Xeon X5650, 48GB ECC memory, LSI SAS 2008 for the boot disks, and
LSI MegaRAID SAS 9261-8i for the data volume. Lots of 3TB

weird network error
a previously rock solid reliable server of mine crashed last night, the
server was still running but eth0, a Intel 82574L using the e1000e
driver, went down. The server has a Supermicro X8DTE-F (dual Xeon
X5650, yada yada). server is a drbd master, so that was the first
thing to notice network issues. Just a couple days ago I ran yum
update to the latest, I do this about once a month.

CentOS 6, mptfusion software? sort of solved
More googling, and then something I wouldn't have thought of: smartctl
doesn't work on this HBA against /dev/sd*. HOWEVER, it's happy as a clam
against /dev/sgx, and there's my RAID, /dev/sg0 and /dev/sg1 (which lshw
also was able to show me), but now, at least, I can run smartctl tests on
the drives, and hopefully one will say, "Bad! Bad!".

Large partition problem
I really hope someone has a clue on this one.... :)
I've got a 2.2TB array mounted on a 3ware 9500 controller. I installed it
last week ensuring that LBA was enabled and using gpt with parted to get
the full size available on one array. I also think I chose reiserfs for
the array. We then moved ALOT of data to the array.
Problem now is that after a reboot LBA doesn't seem to be in

Warhammer: Dawn Of War Winter Assault Expansion
Hello.
I'm trying to install this expansion under wine. The uninstaller reverted
Dawn Of War to 1.40 correctly as it should, but due to an msi installer
error, the expansion didn't install.
I'm trying to copy the files by hand; I used cabextract to get them from
inside the CAB files, but now I need to know where to put them. These files
are:
