Hi fellows, Pretty new to CentOS. I was trying to find a way to boot CentOS into command prompt instead of GUI (or without loading any services). Tried using 'Crl+Alt+F1' at the boot process, but, that holds the screen at mounting and doing fstab and doesn't proceed further. Is there anyother way to boot CentOS into command prompt without using Rescue option from the installation CD?

I decided to upgrade from openSuse 10.2 to openSuse 10.3. I installed xen things, but when I boot using xen option the system is blocked. It appears the green window, with little suse logo in the middle, and mouse cursor, but the system crashes. My computer is a Pentium 4 1,5 GHz, 512 MB of RAM. I attached "diff boot.msg boot.omsg" (as diff opensuse-normal-kernel opensuse-xen-kernel)

Hi All, How does one best turn of X-Windows? I dont need it, ssh works just fine for me. I seem to recall it was complicated and since I know enough to do my stuf and not well versed yet in fixing things I break, I dont want to blow this up. Best, -ML

Would I have to be concerned about any issues if I put open office 2.3 on centos 4.5? Anyone done it? Jerry

I have just install OOo 2.3 on new centos 5 box. However OO keep open registration wizard everytime launched, even though i already select "i do not want to register". I've been playing with "$HOME/.openoffice.org2/" but still no luck. This problem did not happen on FC6, so i guess its not OOo bug. --beast

Hi All, I guess this is a political question rather than technical. New Zealand is probably extending daylight saving time with a bill currently being drafted. It will (most likely) change the end data of dst by pushing it out ~3 weeks. My question; AFAIK CentOS/whitebox/et. al. should not make any changes to tzdata - it is an upstream issue, but how do we ensure that 'upstream'

I have a piii 550 with about 256Mb ram with an agp 32Mb video card and Im wanting to install a desktop that has the 3d cube on the screen and use the arrow keys to select wich desktop you want to use and it brings it to the screen. OK, I downloaded a batch of ".rm" audio files from the net. I can play them with mplayer or realplayer, but how can I convert them to something else, e.g. mp3, etc.? So far haven't unearthed any tools that can both read them and write out in another format. Just wondering, what's the roadmap for OO to be upgraded. I have version 2.0.4 and official is already in 2.3.x and suppose in march there's going to be 2.4 version. As well as Gimp, we using 2.2 and there is 2.4.x Anyone heard upstream roadmap for upgrading? Jarmo

I've got an odd problem. My server will not shutdown normally because the AoE driver is not being shut down properly. hello, I am using 2.6.21, lguest-2.6.21-307.patch.gz and an image from http://uml.nagafix.co.uk/Fedora7/Fedora7-x86-root_fs.bz2 the console hangs, is this expected or caused by the image? I can still ssh to it or if I boot in single user mode the console is available but running init3 and it's hung. also is it possible to get the last gz patch released for 2.6.21?
