proxy server - ipcop vs CentOS
I have purchased a used Compaq DL360 which I was going to use as a proxy server. Presently, we are using a cheap box with ipcop which is working fine but it didn't have much RAM (64MB), etc. This new box we will want to run squid and perhaps dansguardian for filtering (this is a non-profit company) and I'm wondering if I should just put ipcop on it or would it be smarter/better to install

OT: anything in CentOS 5.2 that uses opendns.com when browsing web?
I believe this is completely OT, but I want to be positive. I have a fully up to date CentOS 5.2 box. During the past week, when surfing with Firefox (and today, while testing with Konqueror), frequently, especially when DNS is slow, I am seeing references to opendns.com At times, I end up on opendns.com web pages, instead of at the web site I'm trying to get to. My ISP, the phone company,

Bryan Smith: Thanks for the IPCop recommendation
A few weeks back I had tried to install CentOS on my old AMD 5x6x (equiv to P75 performance) with plans to use it as my firewall and router. Because there were some problems relating to RPM compile architecture (apparently), I posted and Bryan suggested IPCop, even at peril to his life on these lists ;-) according to him. ;-) ;-) Just wanted to tell him thanks, it's worked out well. PV DomU kernel 2.4(.34) for IPCop
Hi everyone, I am currently in the process of setting up a firewall/access point DomU and I would like to know if there is any way to run a linux kernel 2.4(.34) based system as a DomU. The primary reason for this is that I want to run IPCop on such a kernel, but also that I consider kernel 2.4 based systems to be more suitable for some applications, especially for use as a firewall.

Desktop: Evolution & Bug Buddy issues (GNOME)
Is this issue in the CentOS Bugzilla or Upstream Bugzilla? I use a fully updated CentOS 5.2 box. Frequently, when I close Evolution, I get a message from Bug Buddy, the Bug Reporting Tool, that Calendar has crashed. I do not use the Calendar Application. I use Evolution for email and contacts. Then, when I try to send the information, I get an error message: Bug Buddy has encountered an error

Fedora 11 i386 Evolution address book --> CentOS 5.4 x86_64
Finally moved my home desktop from Fedora to CentOS. My spouse was unhappy with me upgrading from F9-->F10-->f11 etc and wanted something more stable. I built a second machine which is now running in parallel to the old F11 desktop. I moved my data (mail and files) from the F11 box to the CentOS 5.4 box. I used tar to move everything. Mail and files transferred A-OK...but the Evolution

Evolution Calendar crash
This was happening, *very* frequently, after the upgrade to CentOS 5.2 (32 bit). Mark (MHR) also had problems with this. Neither of us could report it with BugBuddy, which requests a newer version of GNOME. Now, after having installed 15-20 updates that came out after the big upgrade to 5.2, it is *very* rare for me to have Evolution Calendar crash when I exit Evolution. I do not use Evolution

Problem with SysLinux but not with LILO
Hi, I am trying to use two products that use SysLinux and finally realised the SysLinux is the cause of my woes. I'm trying to use Freesco and IPCop. IPCop version 1.3 used a different boot loader to 1.4 which uses SysLinux. I have been through numerous trials and tribulations in trying to get Freesco to work but eventually gave up and went with IPCop. I kept getting the "Boot

How to deal with pciback?
Hello everybody, for just one week I try to install three servers on an OpenSuSE 10.3 dom0 equipped with 4 NICs. One server is an OX using the onboard NIC via xenbr0. This server runs!! For my IPCop server I intended to use the three remaining NICs (Intel Pro100/S, 3Com 3C590, Realtek RTL-8139). These three NICs should be used natively by my IPCop. So I tried to use the pciback driver. I wrote a

OT: Migration from Evolution to Thunderbird (Thunderbird mbox files)
Background is that I have been using Evolution for my MUA for a number of years. Migrated to Evolution from Mozilla Mail. I only use Evolution for email and contacts. Getting bored with the issues (frequently not being able to exit and needing to kill it; Bug Buddy popping up in GNOME, etc) that Mark (MHR) and I and I'm sure others have experienced. About 24 hours ago, I installed

Where to best start looking for voicemail/moh sound quality problem?
I'm running Asterisk 1.2.13 on a Solaris 10 X86 box behind an IPCop firewall on a 5Mbps down/512 up cable connection. I'm having sound quality problems when users call in for voicemail and with music on hold. The sound is choppy and muffled while souding pretty good for calls inside the network. I'd appreciate some pointers as to where to start looking to improve things. I've

my shaping rules wont work on nat box
I am currently running the following script on an internal machine to shape outbound ftp and email traffic. I am trying to move the script to my nat router (ipcop with 2 nic cards) so that it shapes the whole network and not only the outbound of 1 box. I have cable modem -> ipcop (eth1) >(eth0 - 192.168.1.1) > 192.168.1.100 and 192.168.1.101. The scripts works great running on

shaping passive ftp traffic
Hi, I have tried unsuccesfully to limit my ftp server send speed in linux. I have an ipcop linux firewall/router with 2 nics. 1 nic (eth1) is connected to a 3mbit/384Kbit cable connection and the other (eth0) a switch. Behind it i have a suse linux box and a windows box. On the suse box i run proftpd. I need to shape my passive ftp send speed to 34KBytes because if it is maxed out at 45K

Problem with evolution while upgrading to CentOS 5.2

When trying to prepare a workstation with (so that the real "yum upgrade" doesn't have to download the packages) yum upgrade --upgradeonly it fails with these messages: Error: Missing Dependency: libegroupwise-1.2.so.12 is needed by package evolution Error: Missing Dependency: libgtkhtml-3.8.so.15 is needed by package evolution Error: Missing Dependency:

Proxyarp vs DNAT
Hello list, I am in the process of switching from IPCOP to Shorewall s the firewall for our small office. I very much like the fact that Shorewall runs on top of the same OS (openSuSE 11.4) that I run on the server and my desktop. Our setup is fairly straightforward. We have 8 static ip addresses from our ISP, which provides a cable modem and a Cisco 800 series router. The ip addresses are
