PPTP VPN server
Hi I've been using linux to give VPN access to my corporate LAN using the following software: Centos 5.2 x86 kernel 2.6.18-92.1.18.el5xen pptpd (poptop) 1.3.4 ppp 2.4.4 The Centos server has directly connected the Internet Router, on one interface (eth1) and the LAN on another (eth0) and it works as the firewall/VPN server of my LAN. It mostly works, however, if I try to connect using

Authenticating PPTP users against Samba/LDAP
Hi, I have a few remote user who use a PPTP based VPN. The server is running PoPToP (http://www.poptop.org/), and a pppd patched to support MPPE/MPPC for (some) added security. Currently, users authentication information is stored in plaintext in /etc/ppp/chap-secrets. I'd like to be able to put users into LDAP, and have ppp authenticate either directly against LDAP, or against Samba (with an

PPTP
Last question, I promise, I am running PopTop for PPTP on the same box as my firewall. I can connect to the box fine, but nothing will route between the VPN tunnel and the local hosts. I read the Some Hosts have Special Firewalling Requirements article and though it was what I needed, but either I don''t get it, or it doesn''t apply to me. Here is my config: Zones: #ZONE

PDC over PPTP VPN
Hi. I'm trying to add a client running Windows XP Professional SP2 to a PDC server running Samba 3.0.13 over a VPN tunnel made with PPTP. The VPN tunnel works without problem, and I can see the shared resources on the PDC from the client searching the server with its hostname (I can access to \\server). When I try to add the client to the PDC, Windows XP ask me for the root user, but after

Shorewall, PPTP and Samba
Good Morning Everyone, I have a server that runs Shorewall/Samba/PPTP (Poptop). When we try to connect to the PPTP server from outside of the company, the Windows XP pro client can establish the connection. We can then ping the server and the clients behind the server without any problem, but the issue becomes that we cannot map to any of the shares on the samba server or to any client for that

VPN Server Recomendations
Hi Guys, I'm looking for a VPN solution that will run on CentOS. I've used PopTop with success but some clients have problems at hotels and other firewalled locations. If anyone can suggest something that works well with MS 2000/XP, doesn't require too much tweaking on the client side and is fairly resiliant to various firewall blocking, I'd be interested in hearing about it.

iPod Touch/iPhone VPNs with CentOS.
I am looking at options for VPN connections from iPhones and iPod Touches to CentOS systems. We use OpenVPN for connections with Windows, Mac OS X, and other Linux systems, but there don't appear to be any OpenVPN clients for iPhones (presumably because there are no tun/tap interfaces available yet). My experiences getting IPsec running on CentOS systems with OpenVPN have not been pretty.

I have been following a few general tutorials for POPTOP, but nothing seems to really work as of yet. Thanks! -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:

Blacklist IP after 2 failed PPTP connection attempts
I am running shorewall 1.4.8-1 on my firewall. I am also running poptop on this firewall for remote VPN clients to connect to our local network. I would like to set some options in pppd, so that after 2 failed user/pass attempts are tried, the IP address is blacklisted, and an email is sent to the admin of this IP address that has been blacklisted. I know this may be more of a ppp question than

Using Samba over VPN - shares disconnect on Windows clients
I am running Poptop 1.1.4 VPN server, Samba 3.0.6, RH 9 (2.4.20-8 patched for mppe-mppc). When the end user connects via VPN, they can create a share to the samba shared folder that was created. When they clost the explorer window, then reopen the shared drive from the "My Computer" view, the share can not be re-opened with the error that the mapped drive is alreay in use. I have

help with a W2K VPN client 619 error and PPTP server
I''ve got what I think is a fairly simple home network configuration with one Linux box functioning as the firewall, VPN server, DHCP server and file/print server. I am having trouble configuring both a VPN server (PopTop) and the firewall rules for a W2K PPTP VPN client. The VPN server runs on the firewall machine and the VPN client runs on a W2K machine behind the firewall. The VPN

samba pdc- dialin allowed flag?
I would like to use a genuine Windows 2000 server as my PPTP server (getting poptop to work correctly is annoying the hell out of me) which needs to authenticate off of a Samba server configured as a PDC. A Windows-based PDC has a flag for "dialin access allowed" for each user. I searched the Samba archives and see several posts over the years that say it "sounds easy enough to

PPTP VPN secure?
Hi all I have succesfully set up PPTP VPN access to my company using PoPToP/pppd (thank you Tom for excellent documentation), everything works fine so far. Problem is security. As I understand it, since PPTP ports trough tunnel are opened to whole Internet (have to be), access verification is now based only on username/password combination. Can level of security be raised with MAC verification?
