Monitor power save question
I decided to try the x86_64 version of CentOS 5 on my new desktop since it has an Athlon 64 X2 CPU. The one really perplexing oddity is that the monitor no longer goes to power save mode (standby) if the system is idle long enough (e.g., overnight). The "power management" option is set to put the display to sleep after thirty minutes. The display gets blanked but it never goes to

Nouveau [vanilla 2.6.33] + GeForce FX 5200 = blank screen
Hi there, I have just decided to try this new driver stuff (used 2.6.27 earlier and a proprietary nvidia driver) but the monitor (Samsung 214T) becomes black and the power LED starts flashing (standby) after loading nouveau module (from a fresh 2.6.33). For now I am trying framebuffer only. The monitor is connected with a single link DVI cable. lspci -nn 03:00.0 VGA compatible controller

MATE power save and dpms
So, I am using MATE from EPEL as my desktop on one of my laptops. The screen saver was working, however the monitors (if connected via a docking station) were not going to sleep even if selected via the GUI mate power manager. I then discovered that dpms has to be initialized via the command line before it becomes available, regardless of the GUI mate power manager setting. This documentation

Nouveau takes 100% CPU on startx but does not show anything on GeForce FX 5200
Hi, I just installed the latest nouveau driver from git to try if it works and after modifying my xorg.conf and switching to xorg-x11 opengl startx changes screenmode (screen gets black) and nothing more happens. I can ssh from another maschine and see that X takes 100% CPU but nothing more happens. I am on Gentoo Linux, followed the guide from the Wiki, have Xorg-x11-7.2, tuxonice patched

Power Fail Protection Update II
Many thanks once again to those that responded to my original posting (and my follow up message) with information about Network UPS Tools, other Linux-based tools like rtcwake, and commercial UPS products. We have quite a bit more evaluation and testing work to do before a power fail protection method is selected.? I hope the discussion is as beneficial to others as it is to my organization.

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=99900 --- Comment #8 from Torsten Krah <krah.tm at gmail.com> --- xset dpms force standby is enough to make this happen. Connect to remote GW
If SIP channel driver needs to connect to a remote GW over a dedicated SIP trunk BUT the remote GW has a 'standby' in case of failure, how can the sip configuration file be configured for the remote GW when there are actually two IP addresses. If the main remote GW fails control automatically switches to the standby GW, so how could the SIP configuration file hande this switch and support

EMC Clariion stanby power supply
Hello All. I'm working on building support for the Clariion range of standby power supplies. I've found you can get hold of these easily on ebay like: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/EMC-CLARiiON-Standby-Power-Supply-118031985- SPS-1000W-/160373295258 There is a problem that I haven't been able to work around. After 90 seconds without power, the device shuts down. This is because

portmap & tcpwrappers
I don't know if this is RedHat 5.1 specific, but be aware that the version of portmap distributed is the enhanced (Wietse Venema) version. That's great, except for two things. The first is documented, but easy to overlook: "In order to avoid deadlocks, the portmap program does not attempt to look up the remote host name or user name...The upshot of all this is that only network

ext3 waking hard disk
hi :) when using ext3, i can't get my hard disks to go to standby mode any more. i am using timeouts set by hdparm with 2.4.18 kernels. even when i issue a standby command manually, the disk spins up again after a few seconds. however, (to my knowledge) no user space program accessed this disk at that time. i suspect ext3's journal to be causing the disk accesses. is that possible?

How to make/recieve call using asterisk when there is a power failure?
Hi, I am supportive of the asterisk, but I have some concern, though the concern also applies to traditional pbx as well. Hope someone can shine some light into it. Thanks. During a power failure situation, analog pstn lines that connect directly to the analog phones will most likely still be able to make and receive calls. However, for the Asterisk implementation, unless you have a
