ssl and NameVirtualHost
I recently aquired a Verisign SSL certificate for my web server on Centos 4, with apache 2.0.59 from centosplus. It however doesn't seem to be working the way I've set it up, browsers connect but are told the certiticate is not recognized. Showing more info, the information looks correct. I think it has probably to do with the fact that I'm using the certificate on a virtual

Sun X4540 disk replacement
Sorry for the off-topic question. I''m needing to replace a disk in a x4540 zfs file system. I have replacement ST31000NSSUN disks, but it''s not obvious to me how to separate the original disk from its drive sled, it seems to be attached by more than the usual 4 screws. Is it meant to be separated? I''ve looked the x4540 user guide but it does not say anything about it.

unable to write files bigger than 4GB over NFS
This may not be a CentOS problem, because I'm in a mixed environment. But I put it out in case anybody has any thoughts. I recently replaced a file server, which was on a Pentium III based system running 32-bit CentOS 4.3, with an Opteron based system running Fedora 4. The NFS clients are all CentOS 4.3, some are 32 bit and some are 64 bit. Since the replacement, when I try to write

installing WIndows at end of disk
I have a functional CentOS system on which I need to install Windows for dual boot. I can make some space available on a high partition. Can WIndows be installed on partition 8 (starting with 1)? I have always done it on the first partition. Thanks, Tony Schreiner Boston College

creating RPMs from CRAN tarballs
This is not specifically a CentOS question, but I am creating RPMS for CentOS 6 from some CRAN tarballs. I run R2spec -s tarball to create a spec file, and most of the time it works ok, but sometimes (RPostgresSQL, Rcpp for example) the package has test or example programs that start with #!/usr/bin/r with lower case r, and the resulting package then winds up with a dependency on /usr/bin/r,

sg device
What is the "sg" device? The reason I ask, is that I have a file server running CentOS 4.2 on a Dell Precision 1650. Disks are attached via QLogic FC. I backup to a Qualstar TLS-4222 tape changer, with AIT-2 tapes, which is connected over an Adaptec 29160 Ultra 160 SCSI. The software I'm using is Legato Networker version 7.1.2. I'm backing up a bit under 1 TB a month

Xyratex disk units
I am wondering if any one knows of a way to manage Xyratex disk shelves from CentOS (in particular CentOS 4). More details: Some years ago I installed a NAS unit from Exanet which consists of 2 rebadged IBM x3650 head nodes and a couple of Xyratex disk shelves with a total of 96 TB of raw disk, connected by fibre channel. The operating system is based on CentOS 4.4, but is modified, and runs a

Similarly if the i386 version is installed it will install the x86_64 and remove the i386,

file size limit in apache 2.0 on centos 4
I think I am encountering a download file size limit on centos 4 with httpd-2.0.52 The file in question is 5.2G in size, it does not show up in a browser directory listing, and I'm getting the error in the http error_log value too large for defined data type: access can someone confirm that there is a 4GB limit (or other) in the standard apache 2.0 on CentOS 4? question(s) about LVM snapshots
I've recently begun to try out LVM snapshots and I have 2 things I'm wondering about My intention is to run backups off the snapshot. As a first iteration, I left 15% of the disk for the snapshot LV. 1. The HOWTO instructions suggest that the snapshot is in effect as long as the snapshot LV exists, and use lvremove to disable the snapshot. Is this the proper way? 2. I chose 15%
